The rising challenges worldwide are mainly due to global inequality. Inequality has been seen to exist in most parts of the world affecting nations' development and growth. It may be due to various factors such as income and wealth inequality, lack of access to education, poor law enforcement systems, lack of care and compassion for the poor among others. Inequality has been portrayed in many aspects such as employment places, education, financial aid and medical services. This paper discusses the causes of global inequality and their remedies.
Global inequality occurs mainly due to poor law enforcement systems in most nations. Most people live outside the protection of the law, and these are the poor who are always on the street. The police treat people unequally using the gender, racial and ethnic perceptions resulting in inequality issues. The criminals in the society may receive unequal punishments depending on their wealth. The rich criminals at most times are favored with less severe penalties compared to the poor. The differences arise from bad governance which leads to corruption in most nations.
Recently researchers have discovered that diseases and epidemics are one of the major causes of poverty. Disease outbreaks may cause adverse losses in most developing countries due to lack of access to improved medical services. Epidemics such as HIV/AIDS and cancer do not have a cure which makes the poverty situation worse. In medical institutions patients are not fairly treated as they receive medical services depending on their income levels, race, tribe and gender which leads to a drastic decrease in population. Some of the epidemics include malaria, tuberculosis, and cholera.
Lack of access to education is also another cause of inequality worldwide. As a result, it creates a wide gap between the literate and illiterate in the society. Illiteracy leads to poverty as individuals lack skills and knowledge to generate new ideas and develop alternative ways of surviving. In most countries, people don’t have access to education due to differences in sex, health situation, ethnic background, tribe, and religion. The poor may find it difficult to develop their skills and improve their economic situation. Factors such as illiteracy of individuals' parents, low-income levels, discrimination, and diseases increase the risk of access to schooling and school dropouts.
Women and girls between 15 to 45 years are the victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse. The treatment takes place mostly in the workplaces, homes, and the streets. In marriages, domestic violence is common due to lack of cultural perceptions, ignorance, and ego among partners. Women, children, family members and friends are the primary victims of domestic violence. Sexual abuse and domestic violence lead to depression, sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, and other medical problems. Slavery and oppression at the workplace may be another cause of global inequality as people are treated based on their gender, language, race and ethnic background.
Evidently, global inequality is at its peak and is caused by poor law enforcement systems, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Additionally, lack of care and compassion, lack of access to education and discrimination results in unequal treatment of individuals. To promote peace and harmony, equality should be embraced across all countries.
