Google is a multinational organization, which created one the largest search engines. Apart from creating the search engine, its other operations include web app development, providing internet analytics, advertising technologies, browser and operating system development (Osterwalder & Pigneur, 2013. The main mission of Google is to ensure that all information in the universe is organized in a way that it is easily accessible and can be used all over the world. It has maximized its effectiveness by ensuring that people get the information whenever they require it. It is evident that Google follows its mission effectively by ensuring its services are offered worldwide. It has many programs that ensure information is organized in the required order.
Google business model has mainly achieved its success through it system of advertising all over the websites. There is a service by the name of AdWords, in which advertisers can share links or publish their advertisement on search pages provided by Google (Osterwalder & Pigneur, 2013). It ensures that only the relevant information is displayed. For the model to be more efficient, the number of people using Google should be high as the more the number of people using the Google search increases, the more the advertisements that can be displayed and thus enhancing the value of the advertisers. Google has been able to create value for its advertisers; this is by ensuring it has more tools to the consumers such as Gmail, Google maps, and many more tools (Osterwalder & Pigneur, 2013). Other services have been developed which make it possible for Google information to be displayed on other websites that do not belong to Google.
Google has many people working for the company. For example, for the employees who work under the human resource department, their primary task is to come up with ways of optimizing the number of people working there. There is also a CEO, who ensures that the entire productions department adheres to the mission and vision of the organization. He or she also ensures that there is a proper response to the needs of the market.
For one to qualify as an employee at Google, he or she should be humble. Responsibility and passion are only balanced by humility. The importance of having such attribute is that it makes an individual active and useful in any team. The other way Google selects their employees is through leadership qualities. It does not mean that one should have been a leader before their employment at Goggle rather one should have the ability to guide and influence others in achieving a particular goal.
Google is known for offering its employees amazing services. For example, if the employees require working on their calories, a gym that is fully equipped is available for them. The company also provides swimming pools for those who are aquatically inclined. Laundry services are also provided by Google to its employees; for example, in a case where an employee spills juice on their clothes or on weekends, employees can take their clothes for dry cleaning. For the interns, Google ensures that their traveling logistics and housing are catered for. Free shuttles are provided for the trainees thus there is no need for a vehicle or a bicycle. The interns also get paid a higher salary than most of other full-time employees across the country.
Google also offers several services to it visitors. For example, it ensures that the information published by the visitor is kept safe. Google is also known for terminating many of accounts that go against their policies. For example, advertisement of counterfeit product and those who try to misuse others people’s personal information. For its partners, Google has many platforms in which it offers training, tools and resources in which it assists it partners with IT related information (Cusumano, 2010). It also provides other services to its partners, implementation services, and consultation services. This helps its partners in developing new applications for the information given by Google.
The amenities offered by Google create innovativeness among their employees in a great way. They ensure that all barriers that prevent one from doing what he or she loves are catered. For example, they have physicians and medical services to ensure that their employees are healthy thus making them happy always. If one is healthy, he or she can perform his or her tasks properly. Google also reimburses their employees for classes or programs, which help them with what they do. Employees and their family are always covered with travel insurance to make their movement from one location to another easier and convenient. All these amenities ensure that the employees are comfortable to do what they like most.
Google applies the corporate culture (Alvesson, 2013). Its organization culture has three main features. First, is the function-based criterion. This means that it uses functions as the basis of grouping employees. For example, it has an Engineering and Design team, a sales operation group and a team that deals with the product management. Secondly, it groups it members according to product based information. For example, there is a team that deals with the development of Nexus devices. In addition, it also considers flatness. This is a situation where a group of members who can report directly to the CEO without passing through the middle management. In this way, sharing of information is encouraged.
The culture and structure of Google interact to maximize the capabilities of the organization. There are some attributes that ensure success at Google. Its culture is open, meaning that employees are encouraged to come up with their opinion and ideas (Alvesson, 2013).
In my view, this promotes innovation in the organization because employees are not limited to give their thoughts. Working in such an environment is motivating because new products will come as a result of innovation. The other attribute of Google is that it favors employees who are smart. It means that all of its employees strive for excellence. This comes with its advantages; for example, it will maintain its reputation as the best organization in the world because of its culture of coming up with new and best products every moment (Alvesson, 2013).
The ability of Google to respond quickly to the needs of the market also contributes to its success. When taking part in the activities organized by offered by Google, for example, when employees are taking their lunch at the cafeteria, they share a lot of ideas and opinions concerning the market. These talks promote coming up with a better solution to solve some of the market needs. Their products will solve the actual problem faced by their customers out there. Any organization that embraces such practices of sharing information across employees has a lot of advantages because all employees will be striving in achieving the vision and mission of the organization.
In conclusion, Google is one of the best companies to work for because of the amenities that it provides to its employees. The flat system of operation in the company encourages innovation because all the employees are satisfied and are free to interact and shares ideas with one another. In order to create that environment, Google provides the employees with opportunities for recreation and maintaining good physical health. Ordinarily, these strategies would be frowned upon, but they are helpful to Google because the company continues to churn out one innovation after the other.
