Q1. What was the most important factor contributing to the revolutionary war with the Great Britain? Provide specific examples
The most important contributing factor for American revolutionary war was taxation.
Examples:
The Boston tea party of 1773 destroyed consignments of taxed tea from the East India Company. Destruction of tea led to more punitive rules being imposed. Stricter rules resulted in more resistance from most of the other states.
The sugar act of 1764 imposed customs duties on a several article. The prime minister in the same year also proposed direct taxes and late in 1765 the stamp act imposed the taxes. In the same year, the Sons of Liberty was formed with the principal agenda; to ensure that British tax laws were unenforceable through use of demonstrations, boycott, violence and threats of violence
Q2.Agree or disagree with the statement, the American Revolution was caused more by British policy that American desire for independence
I strongly agree with the statement, American Revolution was triggered by policies that were oppressive to the American colonists. The British Parliament imposed taxes on the colonist without their approval (Roark, 2011). The lack of representation of the colonists in the parliament meant that their interests were not considered in the enactment of the tax law. The colonist all through demonstrated open hostility to the oppressive parliament but continued to send their petitions to the monarch whom they still claimed loyalty. The actions of the colonist indicate resentment toward bad policies that were passed by the parliament not desire to be independent. It is clear most protests and violence were targeted to force compromise on an oppressive law. It is after it was clear that the British were not going to change their policies that most of the colonists overthrew their local governments to create more friendly legislatures
