Jim’s Wings located in the center of Fort Collins, Colorado is possibly the best wing place ever. I hesitate to confirm that they are in fact the best ever because I haven’t yet tried all of the wings everywhere. However, they are the best I have had thus far.
Jim’s Wings opened in 1991 and has been Fort Collins’ favorite for wings, side things, green things, things with buns, and buffalo things ever since (Jim’s Wings Website Home Page). Another aspect that Jim’s Wings prides itself on is the family friendly dining environment that has 7 TV’s to watch the game on (Jim’s Wings Website Home Page).
In my experiences, Jim’s Wings is just as the website describes. It is family friendly hosting families of different ages and sizes. There is even a special ‘Kid’s Things’ menu (Jim’s Wings Website Home Page). The 7 TV’s do indeed make Jim’s Wings a popular spot for watching the big game (Jim’s Wings Website Home Page), which also means big game nights are not the best time to visit. I say this because I am an impatient person who dislikes waiting for extended periods of time. However, on nights in which there is not a big game the service is prompt and timely.
This particular visit to Jim’s was pretty standard. The visit was on a non-big game night; therefore the wait time was pretty reasonable. The service was prompt and friendly. At Jim’s Wings one walks up to the counter order his/her food, receives his/her drink and number, and finds a place to sit down. Then your food is delivered to you. This particular visit was typical. I walked up to the counter placed my order for Buffalo strips in medium sauce with extra ranch with onion rings instead of fries and an Angry Orchard hard cider as usual. I then was presented with my Angry Orchard and the number 37. I found a small table in the corner of the restaurant with a great view of the restaurant floor to people watch. I waited about 10 minutes for my strips to arrive. The waiter brought me my strips, onion rings, and tons of napkins and wet naps and asked if I needed anything else. I said that I did not. My strips were phenomenal, per my expectations. So were the onion rings.
So I would rate this particular visit as a 7.5 on a scale of one to ten. The reason I give it a 7 is because it was not the best ever experience I’ve had dining anywhere, however it was pretty good, and I had nothing to complain about. The experience was above average because I had to wait a little, but the food was amazing. The quality of the food is the most important thing in a dining experience. Of course, the friendly, semi-prompt service is also important however if the product is bad it doesn’t matter if the service is great. In this dining experience, the food was amazing. Waiting annoys me, therefore anytime I notice that I’m waiting for longer than I think I should be it negatively effects the experience for me. I had to wait a little during this visit. The price at Jim’s Wings is a fairly reasonable price for the product offered. It rang up to just at $15 for my dinner. I think this is reasonable because of quality of the food, the fact alcohol was purchased, and that I had a little bit of leftovers for a snack later. The atmosphere was family friendly with a few families scattered throughout the restaurant, a few couples on dates, a few groups of guys and girls on just a fun night out, and a few to-go orders came and went while I was there.
While dining at Jim’s Wings, I met Skylar. Skylar is a local college student who happens to love Jim’s Wings as well. She frequents Jim’s, going almost every week. Skylar was a Jim’s Wings with several of her friends for girls’ night out. She ordered the Buffalo Strips (like a did). However, she choose the Hot sauce and request extra sauce. In my opinion, the kitchen definitely made sure she had extra sauce. The strips were swimming in sauce. She ordered the fried pickle spears to accompany her strips. According to Skylar, they are “to die for”. She agrees with me that Jim’s Wings are the best wings she has had thus far. She agrees the sometimes long wait times are annoying and an inconvenience. However, she loves coming to Jim’s Wings on big game days because she loves the crowded, fun atmosphere.
Wings are definitely one of my top 3 favorite foods. Therefore, I have tried a lot of different wings from a lot of different places. For example, Buffalo Wild Wings used to be my favorite wing place, that was until I tried Jim’s Wings. Buffalo Wild Wings has pretty tasty, standard, what you would expect from a wings place, wings. However, after trying Jim’s Wings Buffalo Wild Wings doesn’t stack up the same. Both places are ‘family friendly’ wing places with TV’s to watch sports (Buffalo Wild Wings Website Home Page and Jim’s Wings Website Home Page). They stack up the same there. Also the wait times are pretty similar; both have more reasonable wait times on not game days. However there are some differences. Buffalo Wild Wings wins in the size department; every one that I’ve been in is a large restaurant. Another plus for Buffalo Wild Wings is the multitude of locations. As of March 7th, there are 1,111 Buffalo Wild Wings locations stretching across the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Philippines (Buffalo Wild Wings Website). There is only one Jim’s Wings. However, Jim’s Wings are without a doubt, more delicious the Buffalo Wild Wings. To be more specific, every experience I’ve had at Buffalo Wild Wings doesn’t measure up the above described experience I had at Jim’s Wings.
