Chapter three: Task behavior and relation behaviors
The behavior of employees in the workplace is a central factor in the determination of their productivity. An organization that seeks progress should observe the behavior of employees and their attitude towards responsibilities. Negative behavior are likely to lower the morale of employees and limit their ability to achieve results (Northouse, 2015). In my previous place of internship, I was happy to note that the organization assessed the behavior of employees and gauged their perceptions towards some tasks. The company motivated the employees occasionally by rewarding hard-working employees. The company had coaching and counselling programs which ensured that new employees and weak employees are offered assistance. This initiative improved the relationship among employees and increased their commitment to the organization. In this regard, the centrality of employee task and relations behavior in the overall productivity of an organization cannot be gainsaid.
Chapter eight: Power and influence
Effective leadership involves having the ability to influence followers towards achieving organizational goals. Good leaders utilize the power of influence to get the job done. While in higher positions of office, a leader should be cognizant of the many ways of enhancing effectiveness in an organization. One of these ways is delegation. A good leader recognizes that a problem is half solved when it is shared. In this regard, delegation enables the leader to engage his followers while taking resposility for their actions (Northouse, 2015). In my former place of internship, I observed my head of department delegating duties to his subordinates from time. This practice enhanced his effectiveness and made him the recognized as the most hardworking employee. Delegation allows subordinate to interact with the work and acquire new skills that can improve productivity within the organization.
