1) What is your opinion on hate crime legislation? Is it justifiable? Why/ Why not?
In my opinion hate crime criminalization is justified as it helps in protecting citizens from all types of violence which is based on their appearance, their sexual preferences, and their religion.
In 2009, the PMO reported that in the last decade around 12,000 crimes reported were based on a victim’s sexual orientation (CNN N.pag). The bill to legalize hate crime that added sexual orientation to the previous crimes against race, religion, disability, or ethnicity was a huge step towards the overcoming struggle for protection of human rights. After adding the crimes against the LGBT community, the hate crime legalization became a beacon of light for protecting their civil rights. The only people to oppose or show any concern over the legalization of hate crimes are religious prosecutors, but as far as I understand they have always been against homosexuality and their human rights.
2). Do you think that we are experience a change in terms of the "glass ceiling" effect for women in business? Provide an example to support your position.
It is obvious that the erstwhile identified and known glass ceiling for women that existed in the corporate world, which restricted them from holding top positions in the world, has been overhauled. With several women leading the largest business organizations in the world such as Indra Nooyi at Pepsi, Sheryl Sandberg at Facebook, Irene Rosenfeld at Kraft, Ursula Burns at Xerox, Megan Whitman at HP, Marissa Mayer at Yahoo, Adrianna Huffington of The Huffington Post, Amy Pascal at Sony Pictures, and many others. All these women are among the most powerful women in the business world and they are the leading major business organizations. They are leading businesses in different business fields and some have started their own brands and organizations. Overall, they are examples of the breaking of the glass ceiling in the business world as women have started taking top positions and run major corporations.
