(Case on North Carolina Housing Finance Agency)
Concepts and Analysis
Vision, Mission, and Value
North Carolina Housing Finance Agency Management Committee is tasked with the responsibility of establishing and protecting fundamental values, ethical principles, and overarching purpose which govern the running of the not for profit entity through establishing the firm’s vision, mission and value statement. Therefore, the vision, mission, and values are the foundation and core pillars of the organization’s operations. As such, they are the yardstick in which the organization will execute its obligations and mandate since the vision, mission and values assist in planning, monitoring, and decision-making (Conaway & Laasch, 2014:161).
According to 1 Corinthians (14:33), God is observed to be a God of order. Therefore, in ensuring that an organization attains this Godly character, the vision mission and value statement ensures that the organization activities are developed according to plan. Although the organization has created the mission statement and core values, the firm should consider including a vision statement. In this case, the firm has defined the purpose of its existence and the ethical principles that govern its existence. However, a vision statement should be defined since it gives the direction. Through the vision statement, the firm takes its mission and adds human value elements thus creating a shared objective among all employees which results in order.
Staffing
Staffing refers to the process through which North Carolina Housing Finance Agency identifies and selects the best qualified individual to join its team (Cumming, 2009: 99). In addition, the firm must have progressive human resource policies, fair and competitive remuneration and staff development programs. Examining the Not for profit organization, the organization is lagging behind in staff development programs. Besides the team building activities, the firm has not placed a mechanism through which the employees are motivated to seek additional training thus bettering themselves as well as improving their value to the firm.
According to Acts (18:18-28), God is said to use workers to accomplish the work of proclaiming the gospel and strengthening the church. These workers are further said to be in a process. To understand the process, according to Phil (3:12), Paul writes “not that I have already obtained it or have become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus”. The scripture depicts Paul to be in pursuit of bettering himself by admitting his imperfection. Therefore, the organization should appreciate that just like God uses people to advance his course, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency uses people to advance its course too. However, God workers admit of their imperfection and take bold steps to keep learning in order to attain what was promised to them in Christ Jesus, I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. Therefore, for North Carolina Housing Finance Agency to attain its purpose, it must enable its employee to continuously better themselves to achieve the ultimate goal.
Communication
Communication refers to the process through which information is sent, received, decoded and responded. Therefore, in order to have smooth running in North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, effective communication must be prioritized (Missoni & Alesani, 2013:364). Through good communication, the firm is enabled to share its mission and values in order to create its shared vision. Therefore, the employee works towards attaining common goals.
Ephesians 4:1-6 talks about unity in spirit. Therefore, the more Christians possess the character and mind of Jesus Christ the more they edge closer to Christ-likeness thus will enjoy the unity of the spirit which is a unity of purpose. Christian learns about the character and mind of Jesus through effective communication in the bible. As such, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency communicates its character to its employee through its vision so that the employee can seek the likeness of the firm which in turn creates a unity of purpose.
