In response to your request, this memorandum covers my review of the recently-completed group project, in which I was one of five participants.
What I Have Learned from the Class:
I have learned a lot about persuasive writing (using either the Rogerian or Toulmin argument models), and about researching facts to support my persuasive writing. I also learned a lot about formatting and structuring memos and various types of business letters. In parallel with those, I became much more familiar with the APA formatting style used in writing.
Why Clear, Focused Communication is an Essential Skill in the Job Market
All human interchanges in the workplace rely on the communication skills of those involved. It is important to know how to explain clearly, and to understand the best means of communicating in any situation. Though it is not uncommon to be nervous about speaking to an audience, giving presentations and team working is a reality that must be faced. It can also become a valuable leadership skill. Written skills are very important, too. Now that our communications are increasingly text-based, being able to express oneself well in writing is critically important. Networking is also an important element of communication, especially in business. It is probably the best way of establishing useful contacts.
Analysis of My Group Experience
What I enjoyed about the group project:
- I enjoyed that all the work was divided between the five of us.
- I also liked that we could share the proofreading and correction of any mistakes.
What I did not like about the group project:
- I found communication involved in producing an online paper like this quite difficult.
- Having to rely on someone else to get their part of the assignment done.
- Scheduling conflicts also made progress patchy.
Problems our group faced:
- We had a hard time coming up with the Outline.
- It was also tough with some of the citations.
- Hitting the required number of pages using single spacing of the text was very tough.
Responsibilities within the group:
- Terry Kwarciany was the team leader. He formatted the project and wrote the Conclusion, as well as making many proof reading corrections.
- Stacy Haynes was probably the next closest thing to the leader. She wrote the Disadvantages section and also made many APA and proof reading corrections.
- Michael Downs wrote the Abstract and other sections. I’m not quite sure of the detail, because he did not post to the discussion board. He emailed them directly to Terry.
- Timothy Kelly also emailed his work to Terry so I’m not sure exactly what he did.
- As for my own role, I
I trust the above provides you with the information you need. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is any other detail required from me.
