I will bring diversity to the Nevada University Engineering Class from my Vietnamese Immigrant background and personal interests. I am an immigrant of Vietnamese origin. My family immigrated to the United States four years ago. I will teach my classmates about Vietnamese traditions, such as cookery, social life, and spiritual beliefs among others. I also expect to learn other cultural practices from different parts of the world from my classmates. I am a bright student and my current GPA is 3.98. I am ranked among the top performers in my class despite the learning hindrance of a language barrier in subjects such as math, chemistry, physics, and biology. Being immigrants, my family and I have endured financial difficulties and had to be assisted by the food and energy assistance programs on several occasions. I will bring these experiences to the classroom and expose the rest of the class to the hardships faced by immigrants in America. A classroom is made up of students with varying interests and hobbies. On my part, I have special interests in music and sports. I am adept with a piano and I like running and soccer. I am also very eager to participate in extracurricular activities that will be held by the engineering class. I am willing to serve the community pro Bono. My goal is to attend the University of Nevada for a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and later work in the pharmaceutical industry. I would like to develop new low cost drugs for the poor. Attending Nevada University will fasten my integration into the American society and help me realize my dream of becoming a chemical engineer.
