The article is related to the demonstrated resistance by the student body in the University of Virginia on the issue of arrest of a black university student and accused it of being an incident of racial profiling by the arresting agency. Martese Johnson who was an African American student at the University of Virginia and sustained a severe head injury during his arrest at a pub close to the University campus on 22nd March 2015. The student body outcried over the harsh treatment and head injury inflicted upon Johnson by calling it an act of racial prejudice against a ‘black’ student. Martese Johnson was reported to be excessively drunk and was arrested by the Department of Alcoholic Beverage control as they flung him straight to the ground when his head got the severe injury (Gebreyes 1). There was a statement from Tina Harris who is a professor in Georgia University and proclaimed that there were several such incidents of microaggression against the black students in university dominated by white students. She also explained that such incidents led to an alienated expression being developed in the ‘black’ students and they were repeatedly reminded of the fact that they were treated with discrimination because of the color of their skin(Gebreyes 1). There have been some other incidents in the campus as well when ‘black’ students were treated harshly because of any slightest scope of a law violation like underage drinking and getting drunk at pubs. However, the issue of oppression came upfront because of the way the arrest was carried out because Martese Johnson received a terrible head injury. The state of Virginia has ordered a state level investigation over the issue of Martese Johnson’s arrests and Johnson planned to put a fight against the charges levied upon him.
