Personal Based on my two writing projects I would like to write about my personal reflection on my writing in this paper. Both the writing projects involved a lot of research and observation. As a writer I have been successful in adding relevant and important details in my papers, making them more comprehensible and interesting.
I have seen a remarkable progress in my ability to write now after attending this course. My understanding of writing skills and styles has deepened in this semester. I am able to zoom into the topic and write in detail. Earlier I used to find this part challenging and would not elaborate and expand my ideas. But now I am conscious of this and add as many details as possible which are relevant and important. Both my papers are evidence of this aspect of my writing ability. In the ‘Griffith Observatory’ paper I have talked about the location, features and characteristics of the place in detail. My vocabulary is so specific and technical, that the readers can actually visualize the place in their mind and also be tempted to go and visit the place themselves. A good piece of writing is one which talks about the negative and positive side both. Similarly I have written about the beauty of the observatory as well as mentioned about the challenges also that the facility faced and how they worked on those. I haven’t digressed from the topic anywhere and have been very focused.
Another important point about my writing is that I have done an in-depth research about the topics I have written. I personally went to the Griffith Observatory’ to see the place with my own eyes and spent time in finding out as much information as possible. I have highlighted the important features of the observatory and how Hollywood films have been shot there, thus showing the importance of the place.
In my second paper about gladiators and hunger games also I have written in detail with organization and cohesion. I did a deep and thorough study of the topic and have talked about the historical and cultural significance of gladiators as well. A very important aspect of making a paper more effective is the use of compare/contrast, which I have done well in this paper. I have compared gladiators and hunger games at length and very vividly.
When we write about a text/book it is important to write well about characterization. I have done an in-depth analysis of the character called Katniss in my paper about gladiators. Not only have I described her external traits but also how she has behaved, acted and felt in the story. In the paper I have stated the theme of the book as well as done a thorough characterization. In this area of literary analysis my skills and ability to write have improved tremendously.
Both my writings show good organization as there is a clear introduction, body and conclusion in the papers. Though I do feel that in my second paper about gladiators, I need to elaborate a bit more in the concluding paragraph and not end the essay abruptly. This is where I lack and need to improve upon. I still find it somewhat challenging to summarize my points in a conclusion. I also noticed that I narrated a large part of the story, therefore I need to make my summary of the story more brief and precise.
