This paper is a response to the views of a university professor; Seyyid Hussein Nasr, who tried to explain to his student the relationships between the biblical and scientific points of view about God’s creation, and especially the negative effects of what science has brought to the world. The paper also explains my point of view about Professor Hussein’s explanations.
I totally agree with Seyyid Hussein’s point of view. Foremost, he talked of the retreat taken by the different religions especially the Christians, the Hinduism and the Muslims, whereas science has taken few steps ahead. This is true considering the fact that many believers turned to the scientific way of life in the recent years compared to 400 years ago. Recently, the belief that God created the universe is no longer the topic but how he created the universe is now the hot debate between the main believers and the scientist, of which many Christians and Muslims believers have turned to scientists for the answer and, surprisingly, the scientist are now busy looking for their own way of creating another world.
In part two of his lecture, Professor Hussein talked about civilization and he said God created a free world without worry, diseases and wars but the scientist has complicated the world by creating nuclear weapons and, through the invention diseases, which are also difficult to cure, have come out of it. This is totally true because even the scientists who invented some of the nuclear weapons were worried because of the danger the weapons pose. Scientists nowadays are looking for a cure for the diseases that they have created. According to Professor Hussein this is not science but it is a way of going against God’s will.
Our religious leaders have misled us in many ways. First, most of our religion leaders are the scientists. Therefore, it is easy for them to convince the congregation about the scientific ways. These same leaders do not preach about bibles or Quran but preach about superiority in terms of war through the support of the invention of nuclear weapons in their purported spiritual wars.
Summarily, I believe that there is no way that a scientist can compete with God. God is the sole creator of the universe and he was there many years before man and he will still be here after many scientists have died. Therefore, it is important to follow what our forefathers used to do and forget about these scientist things which just complicate things for us. Overall, I agree with the professor in totality.
