Third Grade Students
For teaching third grade students, I would use games in order to introduce the concept of renewable energy.
Teaching the concept of renewable energy to most people could be a hard task especially when individuals have little knowledge about its importance. For third grade students, they should have the idea about the sources of stored energy such as fuel, batteries and food (Aquarium of the Pacific 1). They also have the idea about the concept of converting energy into many forms. For example, energy from the sun or solar energy could be converted into stored energy using photosynthesis. The concept of renewable energy is important to third grade students since it could widen their knowledge and possibly grow their interest to its importance.
In this activity, third grade students would know the importance of energy sources which are sustainable and renewable. As the teacher, the students will view me as facilitator of their activity. They will not be viewing me as a boring teacher that will only speak about the topics in class. The media will play to my strength as good facilitator of activities. The media will also help me in making the class to be not boring for students.
Not all students would be interested if the teacher would only speak in front of the class about the nature and importance of renewable energy (Aquarium of the Pacific 1). With the game, they could participate in a fun activity as well as realize the importance of knowing the concept of renewable energy. One example of a game would be finding hidden objects such as coins or chips in a room for several attempts. The media will also be accessible and suitable for them since they always wanted to play games.
Parents/Grandparents/Non-Experts
For teaching parents, grandparents and non-expert, I would use demonstration in order to introduce the concept of renewable energy. For parents, grandparents and non-expert, teaching the concept of renewable energy would be best if teachers would introduce some of its application. The concept of renewable energy is important to parents, grandparents and non-expert since they are the ones that are carrying the burden of the expensive traditional fossil fuels. It is important for them to know the concept of renewable energy as well as its several applications (Earth Child Institute np).
These applications or uses of renewable energy could be used in their everyday lives such as conserving electricity (Earth Child Institute np). The tool or media that I would use could help in explaining the concept more easily to non-experts. My students will view me as a good teacher by easily explaining the topic using demonstration. It would not exposed my weakness as a poor teacher with regards to explaining things to non-experts.
In this tool, I would be able to introduce the concept of renewable energy and they would understand its importance and application in real life. For example, I would demonstrate how to use solar energy in order to heat the houses as well as how to light up several rooms without using electricity.
Physicists
For teaching renewable energy to physicists, I would select videos from the internet and other sources and make them watch the videos.
Among the three subjects, teaching renewable energy to physicists would be the most difficult. The concept of renewable energy is partly based on physics concepts (Bates & Hill, 5). The concept of renewable energy would need the ideas and concepts related to physics in order to fully understand the field of science as well as to develop the technology of renewable energy. The concept of renewable energy is important to physicists since they could improve the technology of renewable energy sources by introducing several concepts related to physics (Bates & Hill, 5). Physicists could use the concept of renewable energy in order to apply some of the concepts from their field to improve the technology used in renewable energy sources.
The tool or media that I would be using could help me in using terms and words which are common to the physicists. Since my students would be experts, they would not view me as a teacher which has little knowledge about the concept. The tool could not exposed my weakness in using terms and words which are not common to non-experts.
In this case, I could introduce the concept of renewable energy with the help other experts which helped in creating the videos. It is also advantageous to use videos for teaching physicists since several terms and words could be used by narrators of the video which would be easily understood by physicists.
