In the article entitled “Decision-making: Risk school” written by Bond (2009), the author asserted that contemporary education should incorporate the study of uncertainties as a means to improve decision-making in future endeavors. One shares similar contentions and agrees that the incorporation of studying risks and uncertainties, as part of technological applications, in school curricula for children in early stages of development would assist in improving decision-making skills, especially with regards to scenarios involving risks in daily activities.
The Reasons
The incorporation of studying risks and uncertainties through advances in technological applications in school curricula of children at very early stages of growth and development have been observed to have increased their potentials and skills for making informed and mature decisions. As noted, “teaching schoolchildren how to deal with frequencies and probabilities helps to prepare them for the complexities and uncertainties of the modern world, and will help them make sound decisions throughout their lives” (Bond, 2009, par. 2). It is important to note that real life settings abound with risks and uncertainties; as such, training the children early on through advances in technology to find ways to address these would significantly assist in correct and effective decision-making involving various adversities in the future.
The Evidence
Through the actual learning approach currently being undertaken and applied in the classroom which is located in Stuttgart, Germany, educators have documented how eight-year old students have actively ingrained lessons on probabilities, considered as advances in technolgy and risk, which would evidently assist develop decision-making skills. Likewise, as affirmed, the use of “real-life statistical examples in their lessons and found that their students become much more interested in the subject because it applies to the world they see around them” . As learned, these young children were found to be more enthusiastic to learn on areas deemed to be very challenging and complex when introduced at later stages, specifically learning about probabilities and statistics through various applications which emerge from technological advancements in contemorary settings.
