A movement can be termed as a group of individuals that work together for the advancement of their shared social, political or rather artistic ideas. One of the movements that I wish I had been part of is the Human Rights Movement. The Human Rights Movement can be defined as a non- governmental as well as social movement that takes part in all activities that are directly related to human rights issues (Kennedy, 2002). The main foundations of the movement involve active resistance to: slavery, racism oppression of the minority and colonialism. What compels me most to be part of the movement is the fact that the movement promotes human rights such as right to life.
One of the most controversial issues that the Human Rights Movement has actively engaged in and inspires me to be part of the movement is the capital punishment for the criminals (Kennedy, 2002). I believe that every human being has a right to live and no person regardless of the crime committed should have their life terminated. The movement fighting against capital punishment inspires me as they believe no human being has the right to pass judgment to end another person's life. Every human life is precious and no termination should come to it because of criminal activities. I concur with the Human Rights Movement as all their protest are to save and ensure the smooth continuation of people's lives in different parts of the country and the world at large. What compelled me to be against the capital punishment was when Sadam Hussein's life was terminated and broadcasted on television. This act portrayed a level of inhumanity in people as they showed no regard or respect for other people's lives.
