“The Last Place on Earth” an epic TV series based on the controversial true story of two rivals, Captain R.F. Scott and Roald Amundsen carrying a common dream of reaching the South Pole. Amundsen was a professional explorer began his planning secretly to go to South Pole. The biggest obstacle in his expedition was the finance. So he officially declared that he will get to North Pole but his real intentions were to conquer South Pole before Captain Scott reaches there. But he officially announced that he will go the North Pole so as to get finance from the big industrialists, politicians and media. He also announced that he will carry out the basic work for public program and at least 15 months of scientific work in and around the polar basin so as to attract politicians, industrialists and media to finance him and there and then he will abandon his expedition. And for this he demanded an additional of 8 men, 50 dogs, adjacent sledges, extra fuel and probations. So instead of gathering dogs in Alaska he carries snow dogs from the beginning so as to take a diversion in between and proceed towards South Pole. And with all these planning he began his expedition towards South Pole in October 1911 with his 11 fellowmen.
Strategic planning is the process of organization in which organization define its strategy, and how to implement these strategies and what are the resources that needs to be allocated to pursue that strategy.
So this movie is directly related to strategic planning as Amundsen define its strategy to go to South Pole by beginning to go to North Pole so as to get some finance and then make a diversion in between and head towards South Pole. He also allocated resources such as 10 men, 50 dogs, sledges, extra fuel and probations. His strategy also includes that he will carry dogs from the beginning instead of collecting them in Alaska so as there he can divert to South Pole.
Captain Scott as such does not make any plans for the expeditions he just officially announced the date of the beginning of his voyage and some other details. He reached the South Pole but unfortunately died while returning.
