RE: IN REGARDS TO THE NEW EVERY STUDENT SUCEEDS ACT (ESSA)
This letter confirms my firm support for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) that was signed by President Barak Obama on December 10, 2015. It takes over from the old law known as No child left behind Act (NCLB) that helped children see the progress they made and the areas that they needed to improve in providing support despite differences in culture, language, background, abilities and socio-economic status. The change to ESSA however is because the NCLB stopped working for schools and educators over time. The ESSA provides clearly defined goals to help prepare students wel for college education as well as their careers by nurturing their talents and abilities (US Department of Education, 2016).
According to the US Department of Education, the Every Student Succeeds Act will help ensure equity and equality by ensuring equal opportunities for needy as well as disadvantaged students. The ESSA will also ensure that students receive high quality education to prepare them for educational and career success in the future. High quality education can be achieved through instilling quality skills and knowledge in students, proper training of teachers and educators as well as the provision of high quality services (US Department of Education, 2016).
The ESSA will further ensure that all citizens annual assessments to help inform on students’ progress in striving towards achieving high quality education standards. It will also support local innovations growing them to higher levels and encouraging their continuation. The Every Student Succeeds Act will help to ensure accountability and effect of positive change in schools that are low performing with low graduation rates over long periods of time (US Department of Education, 2016).
The ESSA will play a big role in ensuring the production of well skilled citizens who are innovative and productive. This production will take this nation to the next level making it an even more powerful industrial and technologically enlightened country creating more job opportunities, solve problems facing the country as well as improving the economy.
