Computer applications have brought efficiency in execution of different activities. However, greater efficiency meant higher costs. This has can be resolved through introduction of multi-core processor computers which bring in substantial processing power; a breakthrough in the world of computing. It enables greater efficiency yet at reasonable power consumption rate.
Terminal services in the remote offices will provide the company with the ability to host many simultaneous sessions on clients using the company server in this case Microsoft windows server. Terminal servers are able to host directly many compatible computer desktops. The modern computer systems support multiple kernel level threads per process (Rodstein, 2007). Terminal services have been able to provide a unique solution since it does not recognize a distinction between threads and process. Multiple user-level threads which constitute a single user-level process and non-Windows based hardware. The terminal services will enable the organization to connect its devices with serial interfaces to form a local area network (LAN). The terminal servers will enable the offices to access network server application at a low cost and the company’s data will be secure.
Terminal services will comprise of the windows servers 2003 which is a multi-user kernel, a client remote desktop, a licensing service and the session services directory. These four components will be required to set up terminal, server in the office. The multi user kernel will be a resident for the server irrespective of whether it is enabled or not. The remote desktop client is an application which will establish and maintain the staff connections in that it connects a client and a server computer which runs the terminal services. The terminal license service will allow the servers to manage the terminal server client access license (TS CAL). The session directory services will keep a list of the sessions which are indexed by the user names and allows the user to reconnect in case of a disconnection.
For the problem of high cost of technology and internet services to be solved, it will be important for the management to set up efforts of controlling the cost of digital technology and internet services in the offices. Terminal server is the de facto server based computing solution for Microsoft environments which offers organizations a cost effective way to host manage and secure window desktops, windows applications and the data itself (Anderson & Griffin, 2009).
On how to deploy and configure the service the following steps will be followed. First, I will set up a terminal service to configure the windows server wizard which is in the administrative tools. I will have to select the terminal server and the will click next until the wizard completes. As warned by the installation program I will reboot the machine for the changes to be initialized. After rebooting its obvious the server will be in terminal server mode (Stanek, 2009).
The terminal Services are said to provide remote access to all Windows desktops using the client’s software which allows the client computer to serve as an emulator. The terminal emulator provides a reliable and effective ways of distributing the window based programs in which they can provide an installation which has multiple users accessing the window server systems of operation. In this they run programs as well as save files and can use the network resources as though were sitting in the computer.
Access to terminal server environment will be enabled using a small piece of client software in the name of remote desktop client (RDC). Terminal services will offer the company a way to reduce the amount of client software’s which are supported on each computer. The centralization of the office network will save the company a lot of money. They will provide flexibility to the company to host a single application to many terminal servers. The desktop applications are installed then managed and finally executed on terminal servers that are close to the data thus reducing the distance the data travels over the entire network. This will therefore effectively centralize the network traffic and data management. The staff will interact with applications and data from a virtualized terminal data desktop which will be presented to the end users.
In the intranet applications inside the office’s domain the windows authentication will be used. The windows authentication will enable web application in the domain to recognize the office users. To create an intranet application, a visual studio which has a template will be used. First open the visual studio or in other words the visual web developer. In the menu option click new project and a project dialogue box will be displayed. On the installed templates you can expand the visual basic and click web after which you select ASP.NET MVC application or just the web application you need. In the name box enter the intranet name and name the project folder in the location box. After that click ok and the intranet will be created.
