Concept of organizational management
The four functions of management in healthcare can be described as the main activities that outlines the major duties of a manger in a given health organization. They can be categorized as planning, leading, controlling and organizing.
Planning
It is the process in which the management decides on where the healthcare facility should go, by outlining the steps that would make the facility reach there. Planning is considered a common model in healthcare management because it allows the managers to first know the challenges that are affecting the healthcare facility. Planning requires the top management to make future predictions on the economic conditions surrounding the healthcare facility. The management thereafter tries to give a formulation of the objectives to accomplish by a given time frame and also outlines the steps that are required to make sure that the laid down objectives are met within the given time frame.
Organizing
The process of organising requires the management to consolidate the major branches of the healthcare facility so that they can work together and effectively. This involves the process of bringing together different arms such as the human, physical and the financial resources of a given healthcare facility are that the company can achieve its objectives. The process of organizing different systems in the healthcare system is by ensuring that there is proper flow of information from one sector to another. Organizing the sectors in a healthcare facility involves the process of classifying the activities in each sector and then assigning the activities to specific groups or given individuals.
Leading
Leading as management function requires the manager to be able to use the powers vested in them to help a health facility achieve its objectives. This is the process in which the top management uses its authority in motivating the employees of a given health facility to help it achieve its goals. Leading as a management function requires the managers to be involved directly or indirectly in supervising and monitoring of the employees and giving them directions in their daily to daily activities.
Controlling
Controlling is the process of conducting a metric analysis that is aimed at checking the progress of a healthcare facility. This process of controlling is always to ensure that most of the tasks are completed in time and it also focuses on the major areas that need to improve on in a medical facility. This process of controlling keeps the facility on track and ensures that there is proper utilization of resources. Take for example the top management of a health institution checking the progress of the use of medical equipments and ensuing that they are properly utilized.
Classical approach as the theory that best fit the four functions of management in healthcare
The most appropriate theory of management that can be best suited in management in a healthcare is the classical approach. The classical approach is appropriate since it will incorporate all the four functions of management in healthcare. Through the classical approach, the goals and objectives of a healthcare facility can be achieved though the cautious definition of both the responsibilities and the duties in the given healthcare, the chief medical officers will be assigned the duties of planning, organizing and leading the operations in the healthcare facility. Through the classical approach, there will be laid down techniques .these is standardized for doing some of the activities across the healthcare facility.
It is through the classical approach that the healthcare facility is able to define some of the ways of handling, gathering and the analysis of information from different departments in the organization. It is also through the method of the classical approach that all the four functions of management in healthcare can be incorporated so that there is proper internal coordination and efficient coordination within a given health facility. This classical approach will therefore be effective in the healthcare management since it will ensure the systematic management in all the four aspects of management.
