- Describe your thought on Brinksmanship.
Brinksmanship is a word coined by Adlai Stevenson as he criticized philosophy with ‘going to the brink’ in one of his interviews with John Foster Dulles, a former secretary of State under the administration of Dwight D. Eisenhower who is the 34th president of the United States. Brinksmanship is a strategy in which it aims to push through the dangerous events into the ‘brink’ of disaster to achieve a winning situation. Some examples of brinksmanship occurrence in world history are the threat of nuclear force during Cold War and the high stakes litigation.
Forcing the opposing side to back down is the main agendum of brinksmanship. In the current reports in which most of it is literatures about Cold War, it was mentioned that different people do the brinksmanship even without supplementing materials. Brinks were only used to threaten the opponent without even planning to produce those. In short, brinks were only words at times. There is no reality in the entire brinksmanship that the world has encountered.
Many groups have succeeded with their brinks trick. However, there are also instances that instead the opponent backs down, both parties subside. This occurrence happens when the brinks are being unmanageable and the party throwing the brink does not commit seriously with it. This is how brinksmanship fails—both parties back down; the goal of getting into a winning situation has becoming out of reach.
Therefore, to be successful in brinkmanship, one should know how to commit with it and how to manage it. Of course, having enough knowledge on the strengths and weaknesses of both teams is a necessity. Otherwise, it will fail. That is how I see brinksmanship.
- Was Richard Nixon a good president?
Richard Milhous Nixon was the 37th President of United States after the administration of Lyndon B. Johnson. He served for five years from 1969 to 1974 after completing his term as the 36th Vise President of United States. The most notable happening in his administration was that he was the very first president who resigned from his office.
He was inaugurated as a president and spoke to the hearts of the Americans with one phrase—that he would turn partisanship into a new age of unity. To him, the sufferings of America in the fever of words as well as to the rhetoric promises must come to an end. Learnings will come after all stops from shouting to the other. Unity must take place. With that, he started making and dealing with policies to achieve his goals for the state. He had foreign policies concerning China and the Middle East. He also had Latin American Policy and other domestic policies to improve the welfare of the Americans. As president, he also succeeded in America’s economy as he was able to lower the inflation rate. In fact, he was able to make his democratic opponents have a hard time criticizing him as he advocates new federalism in the state.
However, it is true that we cannot be successful at all times. In 1974, he resigned from his office due to several allegations. Still, as he accepted that he fails at times, Nixon to me has been a good president. His policies have escalated the welfare of the Americans inside and outside the states.
- Was Vietnam War inevitable?
Vietnam War is a post war of World War II. It is when the Japanese have occupied Indochina which is known to be rich in oil amounting to almost 7.5 billion barrels of liquid gold. This territorial dispute has killed thousands of citizens and even lead to more serious gap between nations. United States, as one of the most influential that time, has been the deciding factor with the most weigh.
Of course, the way I see it goes this in a way that United States needs China as it can easily groove around Asia. Vietnam, on the other hand should have not expected much from US. The extent in which the Washington can provide for both is the limit of what Vietnam can receive from the United States. Also, China will have additional points from US as it can play the biggest role in American renaissance Vietnam, unfortunately, is caught unprepared as China continues to get the attention of the Washington while using the Philippines to defeat Vietnam and get all the resources that Indochina has to offer.
Therefore, the Vietnam War is inevitable. When nations clash, it is not only of one reason or goal. There is always more than what their actions speak. There are always hidden agenda. What the United States wants is to get the lands in Asia and the only way to get it is through getting the support of the most influential—China. Yet, on the other hand, the United States also want to get the vibe of Vietnam to be able to have access to the barrels of oil. But after weighing everything, it turns out that United States must and therefore it did, support China more than Vietnam because it is where it is more beneficial.
- Did Ronald Reagan save America?
Ronald Wilson Reagan is the 40th president of the United States who was known for his ‘Reaganomics’ or the economics of reducing tax rates to spur economic growth. It also controls the money supply to decrease inflation rate and deregulates the economy to provide more social services depending on the demands posed by the people. He used to be a conservative icon and ranked top in the public opinion polls of the United States presidents. He was also credited as he advocated ideological renaissance in American politics.
As the United States President, Ronald Reagan has significantly improved the economy of the states and has escalated the cold war and reduced the threats brought about by civil war. Like the other presidents, he was also able to improve the welfare of the people through the passage of bills and laws like the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1986 that controls the entry of illegal immigrants in the states. This further provides moe employment opportunities to legal inhabitants of the country therefore making the opportunities and services more available and accessible to the American people.
Ronal Reagan’s approach in escalating the rate of economic growth in the United States has saved the Americans after all the finances they used to cope up with war and to get supports from the most influential countries around the world. Targeting the betterment of the economy could probably result to a more progressive country as it paves way towards a healthier and wealthier United States. The welfare of the people should be given more attention other than colonizing and occupying other territories that massively affects all the systems on Earth.
