Sample Movie Review On Movie Analysis: The War Room

1. The War Room is a movie that tells the story of a family who, apparently, were well-off. The couple, Tony and Elizabeth, both have a successful career, and more than that, they too have a beautiful daughter. However, what happened inside the home, was in contrast to how they appear to other people. Tony, who was a pharmaceutical salesman was a verbally abusive husband, had thoughts of infidelity and do not spend much time for his daughter. On the other hand, Elizabeth is a real estate agent who felt bitter about how her husband has turned out over the years. Another was Miss Clara, Elizabeth’s client who eventually became her friend; she was instrumental in encouraging Elizabeth to practice praying for her husband.
2. a) One of the theme that was found within the movie was motivation. In the conversation between Elizabeth and Miss Clara, the later motivated Elizabeth to pray and strengthen her faith in God. Miss Clara was able to motivate Elizabeth to use the power of prayer instead of focusing her mind on the things that made her feel bad such as the thought of getting a divorce. This resulted in a positive outcome as Elizabeth was able to save her family from the further collapse. The motivation to pray and keep her family intact paid off eventually for Elizabeth, who was able to reform her husband to a more loving and attentive husband and father. Elizabeth finds motivation in her client to be strong in her faith, and this was what made her life and her family change for the better.
b) Another visible theme in the movie that reflected the US cultural values is the value perceptions. During the start of the movie, the audience is certainly impressed by the portrayal of Tony and Elizabeth’s family. They have a beautiful house and the couple was introduced to the audience as both successful in their career. By looking at the material things shown in the film, the audience makes their opinion about how far the couple has achieved in terms of material things. While watching the movie, the audience was not literally aware of how rich Tony and Elizabeth, but it is through the value perception that they arrive to an assumption of the house’s worth or of how well-off the family was.
3. The type of consumers who constitute this movie’s target audience are the working class because it reminds them not to be consumed by the need to work for material things, but instead search and focus on what is more important in life such as the family and relationships. When Tony and Elizabeth were portrayed as successful yet, unhappy in their marriage, the audience is exposed to the realization that the scenario happens in real life. Many people are too consumed at work long hours that they often forget to devote the needed time and attention to the family.
This movie also caters to people of the Christian faith, to remind them how important it is for people to have faith in God. In the movie, Elizabeth was a resentful and hurting wife because of the way she was treated by her husband, but things changed when she decided to pray and trust in God. This tells the audience that despite the trials we face in life, it is always important to remain faithful to God.
