Textbook: Cloud Computing: Principles and Paradigms by Buyya, R., Broberg, J., & Go’sci’nski, A. (2011).
Goals: The student will understand the meaning of cloud computing, relate it with their life, understand its benefits, and understand the types of cloud computing
Performance objectives: To explain the concept of cloud computing and its application
Strategies to address diversity: communication –The learners should engage in interpersonal conversations about cloud computing. The participation of all the parties require the guidance. Connections- the learners should connect with the other content areas that was covered during the course. They can report or participate in the harmonization of the current topic and the earlier learned concepts.
Materials: PowerPoint presentation, illustrative diagrams, phones, computers, and illustration diagrams.
Anticipatory set
I will ask the students on how they store their data over the internet, how they access certain sites, who manages those sites, how the information is shared among many people and their flexibility in using the internet. Then I will explain why it is necessary to study cloud computing.
The students should learn the definition of terms related to cloud computing, characteristics of cloud computing, the benefits of cloud computing, how cloud computing is being or has been used, the future of cloud computing and the costs or threats to cloud computing. I will use a PowerPoint presentation, computer illustrations, diagrams, photographs, and facilities that can access the internet. I will illustrate situations we use cloud computing over the internet using a mobile phone or a computer.
Questions for lesson development
I will ask the students the following questions: In which situations do you use the internet? Do you share some resources over the internet? Is there any importance in this sharing? Is the internet prone to various threats? If yes, suggest the possible threats. What are the benefits of cloud computing from your understanding of the topic? How can we prevent these threats? Where do you see the use of the internet or cloud computing in the next 5 years?
Guided practice
The students will be divided into there groups and each group allocated a computer. The students will be required to access the internet through the computer under the guidance of the teacher. They will be required to store or share data with each other. They can open their mails and send mails to each other on different computers. This will take about twenty minutes.
The assessment will be done through asking the students questions and letting them to answer according to their understanding of the topic. The students will also be allowed to ask questions on the topic. At the end of the class, the students will be given homework and a class exercise to test on their level of understanding.
Closure
The students will be allowed to settle and explain what they have learned. I will ask a question like; what have you understood in the lecture? One of the students will be required to summarize what they have learnt in the whole lesson.
Independent practice
The students will be given an exercise to answer questions about cloud computing basing on what they have learnt. The class assignment will be marked. They will also be given homework to aid in the application of the concept out of the school environment and submit it later.
