Introduction
Collins challenges the Africans-American to reestablish and start all over again from scratch. She urges them that they should create a progressive black sex politics in this age of new racism. That is this politics should be based upon the diverse fields of the critical and social theories. Collins go ahead to present a work that is so intent and very accessible across all the disciplines that is beyond the academy. She uses rich sources of examples that include the black’s culture and mass media. Together with her notes, she gives her study a greater value that appeals to the undergraduates who are particularly African American students. According to her relies majorly on radio, and other media sources for information about sexuality and gender. According to her, the primary technology that is used to manipulate people is the media so that the international public can see.
The new racism that Collin argues is capitalism and the disparate distribution of wealth and resources. She argues that this is a global issue since the radicalizing of wealth and the poverty social economy has always positioned people with African descent at the bottom of these social economic hierarchies. According to her this new racism of racial inequality is transverses the local and the national governments’ the absolute power on the over shaping racial policies. Throughout the black Diasporas, they continue to experience this new racism as they experience social and the economic powerlessness. The key function of this new racism as she claims is to undermine the social protest that are brought by Africans and are against anti-black racism that has gone to great extent; it is now between the nations and states (Hill, 2004).
The book strength is that Collins argues from facts. She outlines the new racism that is dominant in the world. The people with the African descent are still down economically. There social culture economy is still in the lowest hierarchy as compared to the white. This is the book strength since bits able to portray the situation as it is. Her ideas are not as manipulative as the media use them. She is able to bring out the point of new racism out. He has used metaphors in a book that when you analyze them critically you become able to see the concept on the new racism.
Her work is mainly from the theoretical tent as she frames her ideas. According to her, any idea of racial ideology cannot be based on issues of gender and subordination. She focuses on women as well as the men experiencing as deeply radicalized in gender in specific ways. She affirms that talking about gender does not necessary mean women. The metaphors that she uses are able to be her strengths in the book.
She uses these metaphors as her strength hence she is able to convince her audience on the existence of the new racism. This is by showing them how those with African descent are still down in terms of power, social cultural economy and are not dependent. Environmental pollution from the western countries still affects greatly the African countries. Africans are still unable to access good medical care services. With this metaphor, she is able to bring out her idea of black sexuality and the new racism (Hill, 2004). From this, we can conclude that the greatest strength of the book black sexuality is the use of metaphors, which has helped Collins to portray her ideas of new racism as it, is. Her audience only needed to follow her book clearly and this idea will come out through the metaphors.
The book focuses on African Americans only. It criticizes how this group of people in America is oppressed. However, the book does not present much about the white Americans. In the presentation about racism, it could be wise for the author to bring both cases in focusing this. The author therefore focuses so much on the African Americans. This is a weakness of the book. This is because; the whites may consider not take. The ideas addressed in the book may therefore be a theory and no practical issues. When it comes to the issue of HIV/AID in the American society, it affects all the races of the American society. The author therefore focuses so much about the African Americans only. It could be wise for the author to focus on all races and how the HIV/AIDS affect all the races.
Through comparison of the two races, the reader could easily understand why HIV/AIDS is rampant among the black Americans. This would therefore lead to easy solution of the problem. This book’s weakness makes the ideas, which are presented in the book to be weak also. Therefore, the suggested books ideas will not be solved. The author present the ideas of racism, lack of employment among the African American, discrimination and the male and female sexual abuse (Hill, 2004). These are issues, which affect the African Americans. These issues could easily be addressed if the book brought out how they affect both whites and blacks. Through comparison of effects of both races, the solution could easily be sort. This weakness is detrimental to the books passing of the message. When it comes to the issue of gay, it affects both the white and black Americans. However, focuses on the African Americans only.
The book is relevant to the America affairs. This is because it fights for equality between the black and white Americans. It fights for the abortion of the oppression that the black Americans face in the entire America. The social theory urges people to live together as a social. It argues that no person is important and superior to another. It argues that no group of people or race is superior to others (Hill, 2004).It further argues that all people are equal before the eyes of the crater. For a society to prosper well, it needs to take into consideration all the people in that society. All people need to be given equal opportunity regardless of the race, gender and even the age. If the society can factor into consideration all groups of people in the society, it will grow economically, socially and even politically. The theory advocates that togetherness is strength and leads towards growth. The African Americans belong to the black camps. These blacks are oppressed by the white Americans. They face gay problems whereby black Americans are subjected to sexual harassment. This harassment makes them to be weak. The black women also are sexually abused. These people are discriminated in terms of sexual affairs.
In the American society, the black Americans have received oppression for a long time. This oppression leads to the discrimination of the black Americans. The book is relevant in that it advocates for equality in American society. The black American has faced discrimination in the politics, employment and other economic sectors. It is said that the male black Americans have are endanger in that they will no longer their power due their low economic power. The HIV/AIDS that is rampant among the black Americans especially women and girls is due to the sexual abuse from the white Americans. The book therefore fights for the abolishment of such behaviors. Gay behavior targets black men mostly. This endangers the black male. In politics, blacks are discriminated and they cannot be given equal chance as the white Americans. The book therefore is relevant as it enlightens all the Americans to fight for equal and abolish racism.
