All physicians are required to be dedicated to their work. More so, they should ensure they provide competent medical care with respect to human rights and dignity. Physicians are needed to uphold high standards of professionalism. Doctors are entitled to comply with the laws of the country. In their line of duty, physicians must respect and protect the rights of the stakeholders in the healthcare sector. Physicians are obligated to advance their knowledge to ensure relevant information is available to public, colleagues, and patients (Rippen, 2000). Apart from emergency cases, where the physician chooses who to attend to, they are expected to provide appropriate patient care to every individual. The physicians are mandated to support access to medical care for all persons.
The primary responsibility of any nurse is commitment to their patients without considering their background. The Nurses are expected to protect the health, safety and rights of patients (Fowler, 2008). Every nurse is accountable for her nursing practice, and is obligated to provide optimum patient care. Nurses are expected to advance their knowledge in health care to ensure that they have relevant information needed by patient and other colleagues in this field.
Both codes of ethics of the two professions ensure that patients’ rights are protected, and the patients are attended to without any form of discrimination. In both systems, nurses and doctors are required to advance their studies to ensure that they have the relevant skills to attend to patients. Nurses cord of ethics is majorly for taking good care of the patients whereas the physician code of ethic is for ensuring that patients are attended to and treated using the best approaches possible (Fowler,2008).
In the case of a disaster, the code of ethics for both the doctors and nurses allows them to give priority to those patients that require emergency attention (Rippen, 2000). As a result, this approach solves the dilemma on who to attend to first.
