Marriage in Korea
Similar to other contexts all around the world, marriage in Korea is regarded a rite of passage; hence regarded highly by every societal member. In Korea, marriage between woman and man is not only regarded as a union between the two of them. Instead, marriage represent a union of two families. In celebrating marriage Koreans often hold events known as Taerye (Bumpass 16). Worth noting is the fact that Koreans have a fascinating admiration for these marriage events whereby they participate in high numbers.
Type of marriages in Korea
Notably, the only legal form of marriage in Korea is between a male and female. As such, same sex marriages are not legally accepted. In fact, same sex marriages are opposed based on the fact that such marriages are considered to be a western phenomenon. Nonetheless, homosexual marriages are slowly being assented into the mainstream Korean society (Bumpass 31). This is evident by the fact that there are a few reported cases of same sex marriages in Korea, which are often carried out in secrecy.
Rates of marriage in Korea
Amongst 1000 Koreans 6.2% are married. This was the statistics as at the year 2010. Evidently, this was a drop from the previous year’s whereby marriage rates were a bit higher.

The average age of marriage amongst Korean men vary as follows;
15 to 19 years are 0.23%
25-29 years are 35.34%
35-39 years are 91.18%
For women they vary as follows;
15 to 19 years are 0.72%
25-29 years are 59.16%
35-39 years are 90.74%
Marriage in Japan
In Japan, marriage takes a legal process that culminates in a civil marriage. As such, a marriage concludes with the filing of a marriage notification. It is also crucial to note that weddings are not necessary in the context of Japan.

The rates of marriage in Japan have dwindled significantly in the recent past. As such, there is a high percentage of single men and women than those who are married (Tokuhir 20). Statistically, close to 80% to 90% of Japanese are single. This means that the percentage rates are approximates at only 10%.
Same sex marriage in Japan
Homosexual marriages are not acceptable in Japan. In fact, much has not been done to develop legislations that allow such forms of marriages in the future.

Marriage in China
In China, marriage is considered a factor that is of immense significance to the society and families. In addition, marriage in the context of China unites families, whereby married couples are enjoined to existing paternal clans. Notably, marriages are not considered as civil unions but family unions (Sweetman, 81).
Same sex marriage in China
Same sex marriages is not recognized in China. However, recent polls indicate that there exists certain population segments that are in support of homosexual marriages (Sweetman, 49). While it is true that same sex marriage are not recognized in China, same sex partners are accorded residency status.

Marriage rates in China stood at 34.2% as at the year 2012. A significant proportion of the married couples were aged 25-29 years.

25-29 years are 75.32%

Evidently, marriages in India are arranged. Therefore, there exists no legal nor official recognitions of marriage.
Same sex marriage in India
Same sex marriages in India is considered a taboo subject; hence, it is seldom discussed in the public domain (Bumpass 9). Nonetheless, Indians have become relatively flexible to issues on same sex marriages whereby it is discussed across various media platforms.

Statistics indicate that marriage rates in India are as high as 46% based on the fact that most of the marriages are arranged.
