Do you think stepping down was the right action for Baldwin to take?
One is convinced that stepping down was the right action for Baldwin to take given the nature of the ethical issue she got herself into. To take things into perspective, the ethical dilemma was a simple inability on her part to correct an error in her resume. However, this is tantamount to dishonesty and not telling the truth, which, according to Donaldson and Werhane, is one among the two traditional issues in business ethics, where ethical relativism is the other. Likewise, her actions violate the code of conduct of the US Olympic Committee which emphasized “honesty and integrity as the cornerstone of all their activities” ; as well as due accountability and transparency.
If she had stayed in the position, would her resume discrepancies have affected her credibility as a speaker?
Had she stayed in the position, having exposed the discrepancies in her resume, it could have significantly affected her credibility as a speaker; as well as the credibility and image of the USOC. As emphasized in their code of conduct, “recognize that even the appearance of misconduct or impropriety can be very damaging to the reputation of the USOC and act accordingly” .
At this point, is there anything she can do to help restore her image?
