Being a disabled person, I have had to overcome many struggles. Through the help of my mother and father, who loved me very much throughout my life, I have learned determination. I have learned to set goals and follow through with each goal, no matter how difficult they may seem to be. In 2008, I earned an Associate degree in Arts from HCC through my hard work and determination, and I am currently working to achieve my goal of two more degrees at HCC in Science and Biotechnology. These two degrees will help me fulfil my goals for a career in science; thus, helping me to be a successful, contributing member to my community through education and determination. This is my life-long goal, and a scholarship from HCC will help me achieve just that.
After I complete two more degrees at HCC, my goal is to pursue a Bachelor degree in Biotechnology from U of H. As I am on a fixed income and do not qualify for financial aid, this scholarship would afford me the financial means to complete my career goals. I am a very hard worker, and the job I currently hold helped me make payments on a payment plan for my first degree at HCC; I would love to work harder and concentrate fully on my education goals and this is more possible with the aid of a scholarship.
Since I was young child, the study of science caught my dreams and has interested me greatly. My quest for knowledge within science has only increased with my study at HCC . Undoubtedly, the drive of my career goals lies in the discovery of a greater understanding of the universe and science within academia. More specifically, I plan to grow in science to help future generations have a better grasp of biotechnology to make further advancements in science in order to make new discoveries in biology. To know more about the scientific world in which we live is something, as a scientist, I will strive to achieve. In addition, I hope to find a unified theory and a conclusive clarification within data to sustain life for future generations through biology.
Advancing and improving my own personal education through college is very important for my future. HCC is my opportunity to advance my life and career by having more chances to provide for me and my family financially. This scholarship will be a beacon of light for my college career. In college, there are many different students, students with various cultural differences, disabilities, backgrounds, ways of thinking and different ways in which each of us solve problems. I feel that because I want to be a scientist, I have a more open mind to understand these very different people in my community and at HCC. My disability is not a hindrance as it has assisted me in so many ways, because I am disabled I can look past social prejudice; because of my determination, hard work, goals, hopes and dreams, I am well equipped to make the most out of my scholarship at HCC.
I believe I should be awarded a scholarship from HCC, because I have confidence in myself that, with my strong determination, I can set a great example for my fellow undergraduates to follow. No matter what life hand to us, whether it be a physical disability, a mental one, or just daily life in general, we should never use it as a reason to give up. We should push through and use our determination to succeed, to accomplish our goals as I have. HCC will help me gain the education and skills I need to be a prosperous member of my community--even though I am disabled. This scholarship will help me set an example to others of how to succeed in a positive direction. There is no doubt I want to be successful--as a recipient of an HCC scholarship, I will be.
