African American communities in America have a very long history. The earliest recorded generations were brought as slaves but after the end of slavery, movements begun for the equal rights. To an extent black achieved somewhat equality but is this struggle over? Most of the black community representatives don’t believe so. Still in the contemporary world, there is a lack of acceptance by the black community as equal as white members of the society. Both colors live in entirely different segments and differ a lot in terms of the cultural, social, ethical, moral and societal norms. Both have different views concerning the racial equality and both also differ in terms of their unique cultural identity (Hacker, 1992).
People of color have undergone a very long struggle to get the privilege of equality. According to many this privilege is yet to be obtained as their efforts haven’t paid the way their ancestors planned. Some believed that equality in terms of theaters, bus stands, social places and residential areas was not what most of the black families gave their lives for. The black social representatives believe that equality in terms of humanity, rights and privileges is what their struggle is for. They want the black to be considered equal in every possible aspect of life.
Struggles existed, they are in progress and future will see them too. However, the question is that what are we fighting for? What makes white people white and black people black? Is it some disease or a genetic disability that black are unable to perform their tasks in a better manner like the white people? Do they have less blood in them or the size of their brain is somewhat very small, or they lack the 23 pairs of chromosomes? Humanity has seen some very funny aspect throughout its evolution. Human history has experienced that to what depth the mankind could sink while figuring its distinct identity. Some call it racial differentiation and other calls it a system of prejudice. However, no matter what it is called, it is no different than the silly lines we called national borders (Gray, 2011).
Black communities and white communities are similar in many ways. Their religious practices, feelings of motherhood, genetic makeup, devotion for the family, biological functions and every other element that makes us humans is the same. Both races look alike; no one has a distinct biological or physical feature to be called distinct species. For instance, like guerrillas and chimpanzees, black and white men don’t differ and look alike. In a nutshell, both of them were intended by the nature to look alike and equal.
There is enough evidence to prove the fact that mankind originated in Africa. For a longer period, they formulated the basics of modern day civilization. Everybody present in the world is some way or other directly descended from the civilization facing severe racial issues in the most developed nation in the world. Anthropologists believe that humans originated from Africa and later spread all over the globe. It is so unfortunate that there exists a common misperception that ancient Africans lack any history. They lived like animals, and some still believe that black communities are still not biologically Homo sapiens. Some believe they are more violent, have a more aggressive temper, can’t lead the corporate positions, most of them can’t even gain academic distinctions, and American jails are full of them. There exist a myth among hate creators that black are not mentally stable. They are the reflection of aggression, panic, violence, dark music and extremism (Hacker, 1992).
Racial issues gradually eat the society like a termite. It is so unfortunate that even the most developed regions of America, still exhibit signs of racism. Medical sciences, anthropology, genetics, social studies and every other field of studies some way or other related to the mankind signifies that there is no difference exist between white and black communities. They are equal in every single aspect and have no dissimilarity in terms of any social, biological or genetic functioning. Both races share similar evolutionary grounds, and both have equal characteristics to be distinguished as human beings (Gray, 2011).
American nationalism is far above the concepts of racial differentiation. Americans being a nation believe in unity, and at least every American believes that citizenship, national identity and love for the homeland are equally shared. Regardless of creating differences, we must get accustomed to implement and promote the suitable environment to seek similarities among both racial groups. Better socialization, interaction with each other, discouraging geographic segmentation and facilitating the lives of each other can dramatically improve the relations.
The historical facts indicate that nothing has been achieved through violence. Negotiations, peaceful movements and raising the voice against injustice eventually wins, and this is what a civilized society like the American should do (Doerr, Ashby Plant, Kunstman & Buck, 2010).
In a nutshell, American society is way above the racial differentiations. And the race will never let our dreams come true which we have decorated with our eyes. Our dreams, our nationhood, our love for the country, our religion, our family structure all share a similar bond and that is “we all are Americans” and this and should be enough for us.
