In selecting the best candidate for a specific position, there are various selection processes and methods that are usually applied. Human resource personnel may use various types, such as in-person interviews, telephone interview, and sometimes, an online, video call interview. The HR personnel must be able to assess the candidate’s qualification thoroughly and in this case, the most appropriate selection method must be done, to which I recommend the personal interview.
One of the benefits of using a person interview as a selection method is that the candidate will be able to express his or her feelings through gestures, to which the interviewer can use to evaluate the credibility of the candidate. Additionally, in-person interview is the single most essential step in selection method (University of California Riverside, 2015). It is not just only one of the most important, but it is also a persistent selection method (cubiks.com). The interview process in every company may change overtime, but it remains part of the integral selection method. Person interview would also allow the HR personnel to collect necessary data from the applicants, which may range from simple to very complex (Gatewood, Field, & Barrick, 2013). However, for higher job positions, the HR personnel may employ a combination of methods, such as interview along with other tests and other hob-related measures in order to ensure that the selection process focuses only on the right candidate.
I am recommending the in-person interview as the most appropriate selection method due to its advantages when it comes to its reliability in obtaining the candidate's qualification. Furthermore, the in-person interview enables a two-way exchange of information between the interviewer and the candidate and it holds benefits that other selection methods may not be able to provide.
