I think that a specific set of skills and abilities helps the managers to gain success in their work. At the same time, there is always a room for improvement. In the modern conditions of constantly changing business environment, technological advancement, and globalization leaders require a different set of skills than several years earlier. I think I have essential skills to become a good leader in the contemporary environment, yet at the same time, I think I can master some of my flaws as well. I have well-developed analytical skills that enable me to resolve complex problems and find decisions in the shortest term possible. I am quite resourceful as well, especially when it is required to address a problematic issue that is difficult to solve with the conventional methods. I think this quality makes me more versatile in decision-making, which is a crucial skill for the modern realities. I have noticed that the organizations today both in private and public sectors are required to be more flexible, adjustable, and innovative. I am quite flexible in terms of instructions and tasks as well as adaptable to all conditions. I think this quality makes me more resilient and effective for the organization.
At the same time, I have an array of flaws that hinder me from becoming a perfect leader. My interpersonal skills have to be improved, as while I am quite communicable, sometimes I do not recognize the other people’s needs. Lack of empathy in my profession is a substantial drawback, because it is particularly important to be attentive, patient, and understandable. Communicability today is a major advantage for the specialists in all fields due to the alterations occurring in the modern world, which made people closer and more accessible. Consequently, inability to empathize and interpret the emotions of others makes such specialist unable to become a valuable asset for the contemporary society. I sincerely want to be useful and make a change, even if it looks like a cliché. To my point of view, the field of education will enable me to achieve this goal and I think that interpersonal skills will be mastered during the process. However, I prefer to increase my ability to be more sensitive to people’s needs today for making it even better tomorrow.
The current preparation program can prepare me to understand the structure of organization better and to enable me, as a future leader in the field of education, to recognize the gaps in the system, which I will be able to fill. I think that the program has a good basis for mastering the leadership skills that are essential in my profession. I realized that even the most successful leaders failed at least once in their career and it is crucial to develop oneself both professionally and personally to attain necessary results. Therefore, I consider the current program to be a valuable resource of practical instructions for the leaders. I also think that it will help me to be more creative in making decisions and finding new ways of approaching to things.
A campus mentor is a valuable person for becoming an example of a leader, who has a lot of tasks. I have observed him several times in action and I can say that I would not be able to address so many people in such short period of time as well as to accommodate them by providing useful advice. I am glad that I have a person I can relate to and learn from in order to improve my interpersonal skills and as a bonus to become a better time-manager. As to the other people in my environment, I sincerely believe that every person is given for certain lesson. All friends, family members, and even acquaintances provide me with the unending sources of knowledge that I synthesize in my own way. For example, one of my friends is proficient in several languages, which makes her speech even in native language more articulate, vivid, and versatile in terms of vocabulary. I acquired a lot of models and patterns of explaining and interpreting things, which mastered my communication skills. I think that I can provide myself with the ability to learn from experience, environment, and other people by making correct conclusions and becoming more proficient in leadership.
Questions
My name is ___ and I currently work and teach in ___. I am quite energetic person who loves spending time in nature as well as to work with the technical devices. I also love to travel and I am addicted to new information and learning in general, which I consider to be an advantage for the communication and my profession. While working in the organization (name), I have noticed that my personal and professional skills help me to target the flaws in the system, yet there is a list of issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible. Consequently, I think that reframing may help the organization to function better in the modern environment. Frame is both a barrier and a domain that can be changed only by innovative and unconventional decisions. To my point of view, reframing is the process of evaluating the old and conventional framework used for the company as a basis and adjusting it to the modern realities by implementing innovative decision into the structure. Overall, reframing is a total rethinking of the strategies utilized by the organizations at all levels or only in one area that needs to be improved.
Reframing requires restructuring, where crucial practical changes have to be done, where the methods may vary. It can be the restructuring of the workforce, where necessary cuts are made and new people hired for improving management and communication. Bolman & Deal (2013) provided a list of reasons that may push the companies to reframe and restructure, where one of them is the inadequate functioning in one of the areas or even in the entire company. Once, I have experienced a restructuring in terms of staff management, when the organization decided to invite new specialists for providing a fresh perspective to the modern issues in education and for introducing innovative ways of teaching. However, I think that the reframing is needed in the areas of HR and communication, as the old models of interactions remained making the some of the new specialists to leave the organization soon after their first days of work. High demands and no appreciation of work do not work nowadays, thus, I think that a new model of communication between the top management and specialists is essential.
