Question One
The greatest challenge in the successful completion of this project was comparing my cultural practices with those of communities that have been exposed to the western cultures and experiences. It was relatively difficult to demonstrate the impact of the new cultures and the consequences that people have suffered from the new ideologies they were subjected to, based on pre-existing assumptions of the community’s past. Addressing this problem required immense mental immersion and imaginative involvement based on the descriptions of the characters and activities illustrated in the novel. Relating to the authors creativity and critically analysing the situations which he gave also came in handy in completing the project.
Question Two
An in-depth analysis of the novel, Nervous Condition, also played a crucial role in the provision of ample information for the completion of this project. It provided me with the insight I needed to analyse the post colonialism and sexual discrimination theories. Specifically, the novel was invaluable and resourceful as it provided adequate information and illustrations about real-life scenarios based on the impacts of these theories. Such illustrations played a crucial role in understanding the theories by providing a clear image of the scenes.
Question Three
While working on the paper, there was a presumption that westernised individuals abhor sexual discrimination. However, after a closer look at the novel, it is evident that even individuals, such as Tambu’s uncle who appeared to be westernized, still suffered from the notion of female inferiority. This realization called for a revision of the work to illustrate how female discrimination was deeply entrenched into the roots of most individuals, including the educated ones. Furthermore, it illustrated the various elements of the gender theory. It also enabled me to use more illustrations while addressing issues related to gender discrimination, thereby making it more vivid.
Question Four
` Most ‘primitive’ people yearn to acquire western education so that they can reach the “top status” that they believe such education guarantees. Given more time, the idea of Tambu getting excited to go to school so that she finally starts living might require reinforcement to show how the rest of the people perceive this idea. More time would also play a crucial role in painting a clearer picture of the state of female discrimination in these cultures. Such discrimination goes deeper than Tambu’s aunt being denied the opportunity to pursue her ambitions. It includes the general view regarding women in politics or other leadership and management positions.
Question Five
The project is an A grade since it illustrates my adequate knowledge and understanding of the topic in question and my ability to use creativity in elaborating and illustrating the theories. Furthermore, the project demonstrates the relevant planning skills that I possess and shows how the skills relate to the subject matter. The project also incorporates the use of varied vocabulary and proper grammar, which play a huge role in the understanding of the topic.
Question Six
The main skill employed in this project analysis was the use of creative writing to show how the theories relate to modern life situations and their influence on the colonized people. This will enable me to relate and understand real-life situations in my career that requires the applications of such knowledge. Critical thinking also enabled me to know and understand the contents of the project, thereby enabling me to handle the different activities efficiently. Specifically, I was able to comprehend the various elements and tenets of the post-colonialism theory and the gender/ sexual discrimination theories.
