Arguably, these are various strategies of self care that should be identified. As a matter of fact, every social worker has his or her own strategies, which will always be different from each other. Self-care is one of the controversial subjects since it is viewed as overly indulgent, selfish, as well as slothful. In the real sense it only entails taking exceptional care yourself, which will contribute to overall well-being. As a social worker, there are various things that I do to nurture myself in body, spirit and mind.
Certainly, it is essential to always appreciate your hard work. I nurture my body, mind and spirit by treating myself in a special way and doing something good to myself. This includes eating a balanced diet, buying good clothes, buying a bouquet of flowers, and allowing some private time for myself. In most cases, this boosts my confidence since I feel loved and cared for by myself. It does not make any sense appreciating others, yet we do nothing to appreciate ourselves. Moreover, I have developed an intimate circle of family, work mates, and friends who I can talk to and share various issues. After work, when I am tired I put on my favorite music, and dance. This relaxes my mind, body and soul. Perhaps, a good diet is what I always adhere to, this entails eating all sorts of nutrients. During weekends, I treat myself to some massage, pedicure, and manicure. I believe God is my strength in my entire activities, I always have time to read the Bible and say a word of prayer. In general perspective, I always focus on everything that brings the right attitude into my life.
There are various factors that get in the way of my self-care activities(Alexander et al, 10).. One of the main barriers is time, in most cases I find myself foregoing my self-care activities due to lack of time. In addition, money is another problem; this is because most of my self-activities require money. Family issues also run on my way as I try to fulfill my day to day self activities. Other barriers include multiple role playing, perfectionism, as well as lack of support.
Perhaps, what is important in overcoming some of these obstacles to self care activities is to be aware of this barrier. I always struggle to minimize these various in a number of ways(Alexander et al, 16). I make a list of all the activities that I am suppose to do every day, especially those that directly benefits me. In every payment period, I set aside some cash for the purpose of carrying out self care activities that require money. On issues of time, I always try to wake up early if the day's activities are overwhelming, this will decrease the barrier of time. I always cut barriers to an active lifestyle by spending a little time on movies and television, and focus on spending the recovered time with my friends. I have explored the motivation to make me change and have a positive view of my self-care activities.
One activity that I would like to try is going to the gym and doing tremendous exercise. These will be a tremendous boost to my mental, physical, and emotional well being. Studies show that gym prevents obesity, encourages cooperation, develops a strong coordination of mind and body, as well as maintaining a clear thinking. The first step to take in trying this activity is to develop a motivational character towards physical fitness and sticking to a regular schedule.
