English Composition
Evaluate your growth as a writer this semester: In two or three detailed and well-developed paragraphs, discuss your progress as a writer this semester. Consider your writing ability at the beginning of the semester, and compare it to your ability today. What were your strengths and weaknesses when you enrolled in this class? How would you describe your strengths and weaknesses today? What did you learn in class that was most valuable or useful to you? How will you apply skills acquired in this class to your work in future classes or on the job?
At the start of the semester, I have questioned my ability as a writer. I have uncertainties whether I am already good at writing. I firmly believe that writing is a skill. It requires regular practice just to hone it. I am, thus, grateful to our teacher for helping me understand correct usage, choice of words, critical thinking as used in writing, and so on. Now, I can say that my writing ability has improved a lot.
Previously, I do not know exactly how to express my thoughts in writing. Nevertheless, my teacher, who has mastery of the English language, helped me overcome my weaknesses. Funny, but it is true! I do not really know how to begin my introduction, how to think of a main idea, how to make each sentence and paragraph follows and flows logically from the main idea and from one another, how to make my sentences/paragraphs meaningful, and so forth. Now that I have learned the art of writing, I am proud that my former weaknesses were now strengths. Furthermore, when I enrolled in this class, I only have basic skills (strengths) as a newbie writer. I only have wide-ranging vocabulary, correct spelling, and so on. I am familiar with the different parts and figures of speech. However, most of the times, I only express myself freely without much thought. Subsequently, after learning so much from the class, I know now how to be more organized in presenting my thoughts through writing using a variety of techniques and strategies.
The most useful/valuable thing that I learned in class is to keep learning as much as I can in order to become a more competent and proficient writer. I believe that writing requires much training, patience, perseverance, and time to become an effective writer. It is actually one of my goals in life to become a successful professional writer so that I will write my own autobiography, books, and other reading materials (someday). Today and in times to come, I will always be grateful to my teacher for teaching me how to express my thoughts through writing wholeheartedly.
