Abstract
Objectives: This paper seeks to discuss gender equality as one of the most crucial SDGs. It pays particular interest on women empowerment and promotion of women rights.
Methods: The paper proposes the conception of an awareness program that targets popular and influential female figure. This is done with an aim to create a strong movement advocating form women rights and gender equality.
Findings: It is evident that emphasizing on women right is a viable approach when it comes to promoting gender equality. This is based on the fact that women have been oppressed over a long time as indicated by various authors in the course of this research.
1.0 UN Sustainability Development Goals
Having worked for 15 years to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, the UN sought to change its collective aims in order to address issues that are more relevant to the contemporary world. The entity looked forward to address three important achievements that included poverty elimination, protect the planet, and guarantee success for all people globally.
2.0 Goal Chosen
In this regard, the research focuses on gender equality as the SDG of choice. This goal is aimed to ensure that women and men are treated equally across the globe. Essentially, gender inequality has led to the discrimination and misuse of women in the society. The emphasis on gender equality would increase respect for women who are the main culprits as far as sex trafficking is concerned.
3.0 Method
In regard to promoting gender equality and discourage sex trafficking, I propose the creation of a vast and effective awareness campaign that seeks to fight for the rights of women in the society. The awareness campaign will target more women politicians, business women, and influential professional women in the society. It will be aimed to mobilize them toward creating a bigger women right movement that would push for appropriate legislation to support gender equality and women rights.
4.0 Discussion
Clinton (2012) indicates that the efforts to empower women and provide equitable opportunities for all people are a fundamental requirement for success. In that same regard, Qirjako (2016) indicated that women and men are entitled to equal access to opportunities. In addition, Kohm and Holmes (2000) revealed that the emphasizing on bodily and autonomic aspects when fighting for women rights, has overridden the important issues such as female pay discrimination and women empowerment among others. In this regard, therefore, it is evident that starting an awareness program to promote gender equality and empower women is the right course of action. In addition, it is very crucial to start a program that is run by women for women. This will end vices such as sexual trafficking and feminist discrimination.
5.0 Conclusion
It is evident that the plight of women has been oppressed over a long time. They are viewed as people with lower capabilities who should serve men. However, this awareness program will be of crucial important in light of promoting gender equality as one of the Sustainability Development Goals stipulated by the UN in 2015.
