The definition of family is not restricted to heterosexual couples in a marriage or people who share the same genes. Those criteria of defining what a family is would lock out adopted kids and foster children. It will most certainly leave out lesbian and gay couples and very close friends that people might consider family. Judith Stacey a sociology professor points out that lesbian and gay families are here to stay and therefore people should not be narrow minded and embrace this new family setup. The homosexual families are there in large numbers and are fighting for their rights just like other minority groups. Religious groups view homosexuality as an evil and abomination; this has poured down into politics, respectively the Republican Party. In 1994, the Republican Party passed a law that would convict a gay person to register as a violent offender for the rest of their life, they changed this notion after a massive public outrage. Gay and lesbians families spread across the races; they come from different religion, ethnicities (Stacey,2002). They are just like a normal family and share the same family values and challenges. The labels gay and lesbian just show how homophobia is within the society and these labels would be irrelevant if the non-gays used it. The Coca-Cola super bowl is about the love for family in the traditional setting while the honey maid advert shows a happy and loving gay family. Both adverts show love of family from different backgrounds. The honey maid advertisement got the most views with a backlash coming from every sector. Other factors that have changed within the 50 years include globalization, technology, industrialization and research.
Children the world over attend school with very different goals when it comes to the level of education they want to achieve, depending on where they come from. A child in a poor country can only hope for basic education while a child from a developed country can achieve university education or even go further. Technological advancement and Globalization has changed this tremendously together with industrialization. Change in business and trade and industry and demand for educated staff has changed the phase of the education system around the world. The level of education reflects the status of a family economically and the status of the society, and the community as a whole. Education sociologists are researching on the different approach of education systems because it helps to analyze the system of a country. Educated societies are more receptive of change as compared to the less educate societies ( Ballantine 2011).
