The woman drives the car in the most world countries, but it’s strictly forbidden in Saudi Arabia. Nevertheless, driving the car for women should be considered legal in the kingdom. Law, society and Islam religion don’t prevent women from driving the car.
Many citizens of Saudi Arabia Kingdom think that permission for women to drive the car will influence on Saudi society purity destroy, as it is the country where culture, religion, gender segregation means a lot for people. So, women and men respect the most of rules of their country in contrast to most European countries. According to that fact most of people of the kingdom refuse the idea of women right to drive the car.
What’s more, Saudi Arabia does not have written law on the prohibition of women driving, but the kingdom rules require the usage of licences, which are not issued to females. So, it automatically makes illegal for them to drive the vehicle. Women who decide to go in contradiction to law, are punished and imprisoned. For example, on 22 May 2011 Manal Al-Sharif was lashed after being found guilty of driving her car without permission (Telegraph). This case is considered to be like a deterrent for those women who decide to get behind a wheel.
Many people of Saudi Arabia think that letting woman to drive the vehicle will influence on the family destroy, because it’ll be impossible for her to combine family responsibility and driving the car. She will become more independent and will act in contradiction to Islamic traditions. There are some people in Saudi Arabia who refuse national customs and traditions. For example, Aramco company gives women the right to drive the vehicle for a long time. What’s more, the royal family has it’s own opinion concerning this problem. For example, the crown prince supports the traditional idea of women rights, while in summer 2011 King Abdullah made a promise to protect women’s right concerning driving (The Saudi Gazette).
According to Holy Book “Qura’an”, Islam religion doesn’t prevent women from driving the car. So, woman should drive the vehicle by herself, because she is a part of our society. Even Prophet Muhammad allowed his wife to ride the camels during times when cars, buses, trucks were not existed or designed. What’s more, it was believed that the best woman who took the ride camel was the woman of Quraysh.
Prophet Muhammad once said that “Heaven Lies Under The Feet Of The Mother” (Famous quotes). So, letting women to drive the car is not haram. It doesn’t depend on gender segregation, religion, customs, traditions or the place where you live. Safe driving is much important than those who get behind the wheel.
