Pornography exists since generations in one or the other form; however with the easy access to internet, magazines, social media and cellphones it is easier to access it than ever before. I am curious if Porn is the next easiest thing to be freely available like air? Many countries have laws against porn and some have been strong enough to restrict people from misusing it. But, do these laws really support the morality of the future generation? Pornography serves so many public and private purposes that despite numerous laws, including but not limited to obscenity, it has never been systematically implemented at any level (Gubar & Hoff, 29).
Some laws already exist that explain pornography and how porn can affect the children. The argument if the government must legalize pornography is always a debatable topic. Many countries have restricted pornographic content and blocked several Internet Protocol (IP) addresses that open up obscene images and sexual content. I am interested to know how much restriction the countries can provide on porn when it is possible to bypass the proxy and still access the sexual content? Has the government created any such firewalls that can block pornographic material completely? Child pornography is a severe crime and any individual who promotes child pornography face dire consequences. Other pornography may be considered bad by some but it is often legal (Brennan, 104).
Even for the adults who act in the pornographic movies, or pose for the magazines there is a rule on the limits of obscenity that can be displayed. But considering the ban of the anti-social element like the drug abuse we still see it being legalized in some states and many countries promote it underground. How can we be sure that if porn is restricted by the law we may not encounter teen pregnancies that are on rise since a few decades? Though the legal age to watch porn is restricted to 18, how do we find teens who are pregnant at the age of 15? The legal laws on pornography are hardly followed when it is related to the easy access of porn to the teens. I understand that legalizing porn will not only safeguard people from crime, it will also help in improving the traditional values, and significantly increase the moral values in children.
Pornography unleashes all those shameful, libidinal desires that any civilized society must repress in order to exist and it also destroys the nuclear family which is the bedrock of Western civilization (McConahay, 39). If pornography is restricted by laws will it be considered as voicing against the freedom of speech? I wonder if it can ever be done because Pornography as an industry runs into millions of dollars and has some role to play in the economy of the country. Child pornography must be considered illegal; however the content produced by adults must be delimited and the people interested to procure must be permitted to have a hand in the business. Will allowing the adults to participate in pornography business practically end the crimes that are committed in the name of pornography?
Many married couples incline towards porn if they are not satisfied with their sex life. Laws can be created and regulated for Pornography, but can laws be created to stop these couples from being inclined towards other gender that can be a result of watching too much porn? Various communities and social organizations created rules and regulations about pornography that describe how the media houses influence concerns associated to pornography. The authoritative people responsible for regulating the laws must evaluate them periodically to gauge the growth of information. Can we still restrict pornography with strong laws in place?
