Hitchcock is the man behind several films. These include The Psycho, The Birds, North by North West; Rebecca among others. Hitchcock exudes a lot of similarity between the films. The Psycho is similar to other books in a variety of aspects.
One is that Psycho employs suspense just like other films. The film encompasses scenes in which there is a lot of tragedy. However, when a massacre or killing is about to happen, the audience is not shown this. The audience only sees blood to affirm that a certain character has died. In psycho, we are not shown the blade hitting a particular victim though there is a massacre. This leaves the audience with suspense at this point in time of how it has happened. This makes the film entertaining to watch.
The use of a charming sociopaths is evident in Psycho and in many other films written by Hitchcock. Norman Bates in Psycho, James Stewart in Vertigo, James in North by North West are a few of such characters. Many of these villains appear charming and happy in most of the film though they go ahead to commit certain serious atrocities.
There is also transference of guilt in Psycho, just like in other films by Hitchcock. James Stewart in Vertigo indirectly causes the death of Madeleine after following her closely and accepting her story from her husband. In Psycho, Marion Crane commits crime and. He later dies in cold blood. However, the sympathy of the audience is shifted to another character, Norman Bates.
In Psycho and other films such as North by North West and the Birds, mothers are seen as intrusive and domineering.
Sexuality is given special attention in the pieces of Art. The films may be perceived by some people as rather explicit and perverse. However, Hitchcock exercises censorship in most of his films. Hitchcock also uses blonde women in his pieces of art. We see Janet Leigh in Psycho and Tippi Hendren in The Birds.
Hitchcock also employs silent scenes in Psycho just like in other pieces of art by him. He emphasizes more on the use of images than dialogue. The importance of this is to create a vivid picture in the mind of the audience of what is going on.
The use of number 13 is applied in Psycho just like in other films by Hancock. The number recurs as a room number, house or apartment number. Marion drives 13 license plates. She also trades cars at the car dealership with the total number of cars traded amounting to 13. This number, 13 is as well seen in other films by Hitchcock.
Staircases are also frequently featured in Psycho and other films. The path to Bates mansion is prominently covered with staircases. In Rear Window, James Stewart’s apartment is adorned by staircases too. This also features in Vertigo and the Birds.
Reasons why the Psycho is more Unique.
One of the differences between the Psycho and other films is that the Psycho has great standards of originality in it. It is one of a kind where a character dies in the middle of the film. The film does not show any knife striking flesh. Hancock presents the scenario such that murder has happened but the same is not shown.
Marion and Norman are also given special attention in the film making the film stand out. In comparison with other films by Hancock, this appears different since in other films, many characters have been observed.
The film gives more pronounced attention to the artistry than film graphic details. This makes the film to stand out more than other films by Hancock. Water and blood represent death by killing. A series of grisly sound effects affects this.
