1. I agree that the policymakers should introduce changes to the learning schedule to fit the new tendencies in the circadian rhythms among adolescents. The biological processes require the teenagers to have enough hours of sleep to develop properly. As the majority of middle school children tend to stay awake during late nights, I believe that a slight alteration of the school schedules will make a positive difference in the performance and general well-being of a child. If children sleep more, they will be able to stay alert and focused during the classes and receive better grades. Additionally, if the children are not tired all the time their emotional and psychological health will improve, and they will be able to cope with the challenges of everyday life more easily. While there are several factors to take into account, such as the potential need to decrease the time of extracurricular activities, later hours of school jobs and some discrepancies with the parents’ schedules, the benefits will still outweigh the disadvantages.
2. In my opinion, it is insufficient to change the school schedules to meet adolescents sleeping patterns. First of all, it is possible to develop healthy sleeping habits and not to stay awake during the night. I think that there are many cases when teenagers do not go to bed solely because they wants to spend a few more hours browsing the Internet. If parents limit their children access to technology in the evenings, they can gradually teach their kids to go to bed earlier, and the need to introduce new schedules will disappear. The discipline is an essential part of healthy personal development, and learning how to control one’s rhythms will benefit the future life of the adolescenst. Moreover, it is the lack of sleep itself that makes students unfocused, rather than the time classes start. Therefore, I disagree that the changes in schedule will improve performance and well-being of the students, but the discipline and sufficient amount of sleep definitely will.
