In the age of the Internet and information technologies, with invention of computers and smartphones, applications became an essential part of people’s lives. They provide opportunities for work, entertainment, communication, education, etc. However, coming up with the idea of designing one or another application is always a risk. Sometimes, professionals create ones and do not succeed, while brilliant students develop others and become big-named. One of such successful stories is a story about the designers of Snapchat. The aim of this work is to give a brief overview of this application and its designers, and to bring into focus their ability to risk and courage to face difficulties.
Snapchat was designed by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Frank Reginald Brown while being students at Stanford University. It is a video messaging application that allows users to take photos or record videos, then, if necessary, to add a filter, and send them to a number of recipients. The idea of Snapchat appeared as a project for one of Brown and Spiegel’s classes; later two of them invited Murphy for coding the application. Their mission was to make Internet communication more “humanize” variegating human emotions and allowing them to be who they really are. The idea of impermanent photos was not eagerly accepted by their classmates; however, in September 2011 Snapchat was launched under the name Picaboo, then was renamed, and during next year, sprung into incredible popularity among users.
Spiegel, Murphy, and Brown were unafraid of putting their idea into action, felt the urge, and succeeded despite being not supported at first. They were ardent in their desire, and became pioneers in changeable photos. First coming up with the idea of Snapchat, these three guys were only students; that, however, did not put them off from risking. They could make all riffles connecting with creation of the app and its later using. Snapchat was an endeavor that brought its creators popularity and money.
In the modern world, applications are designed every day; some of them do not get enough attention and success, but some become incredibly popular. Realization of ideas and facing of consequences is always a risk, but its negotiation can bring brilliant results. Spiegel, Murphy, Brown, and their Snapchat are not the only one bright example of success. Nowadays, talented guys can be found almost everywhere, but not all of them can make good. Success requires much more that just mind and skills. The main idea is being brave enough and not giving up in process. Spiegel, Murphy, and Brown are a living proof of this.
