Social Behavior: How Men and Women Interact In Social Gatherings
Goals
Men and women are inherently attracted to one another starting from childhood to adulthood. It may begin as a harmless playmate relationship in the neighborhood to school sweethearts to teenage relationships. After graduation, they embark on more mature relationships that involve deeper meanings, commitment, and physical intimacy. This interaction and attraction is brought about by individuals' need for love, affection, and need for expression.
In some cases, outside factors also influence this interaction and attraction. Media, for instance, play a huge role in setting up the stage for couples to get ideas from especially when it comes to dating. What people see on television, in movies, or read in magazines contribute to various ways for men and women to express their love and sexual intentions for each other. The media also provides additional information on how to approach people from another culture as, surely, the rules of dating are not the same considering the diverse traditions, norms, and beliefs that man are made of.
Apart from the media, social gatherings also present opportunities for interaction between the two genders. This includes supermarkets, bars, parties, vacations, and other similar social events, where social interactions are expected. In these situations, men and women show differing ways on how to approach each other as well as how to turn down invitations. These situations may also present gender stereotypes when it comes to who approaches whom first, how one gender should react, and how the initial meeting could lead to more dating opportunities.

Research Questions
Men and women are social beings, which mean interaction between the two genders is common, expected, and practiced by both sexes. Regardless of the situation they might find themselves in, there are plenty of opportunities for them to make contact with each other. In this regard, this paper will attempt to answer the following questions:
- What specific behaviors are apparent when men intend to make contact with women in a bar setting?
- What factors determine how a woman would react to a man's efforts at striking a conversation with her?
- Do culture, race, and ethnicity influence how genders react towards each other?
- Are there distinct differences that separate men and women from each other when in social settings?
- Is age a determinant of social behavior?
Populations
Restaurants and bars are places where men and women interact the most. According to some studies, men find it easier to approach and connect with women at night and in bars rather than during the daytime and in places such as gyms and supermarkets. This is because in the bar environment, social interaction is expected. People go to bars to socialize and meet people. In addition, with cigarettes and alcohol present, men tend to feel relaxed; thus, whatever inhibitions one feels when approaching another individual disappears. On the other hand, people go to fitness centers and shopping malls to accomplish something, that is, to work out or buy some grocery items, for instance. They are not there to meet other people.
Take the case of "Wonder Willy" who frequents the bar to hit on single women. He goes to the bar to have a good time and flex his masculinity when an opportunity arises. There is also "Gorgeous George" who preys on older women. He prefers mature women (women over 40) to the younger ones because older women are sure about themselves and know what they want. "Sexy Selena" is the typical college girl who talks and acts confidently. Even without the benefit of talking, her eyes speak volumes about what she wants.
