Arguably, social problems in society are inevitable. As a matter of fact, social problems have tremendously risen in the past decades and continue to increase. The social problems in society entail conditions that are very undesirable. Regardless of the class that people belong, social problems are very many and occur to all people in the globe. It is worth noting that social problems affect both the developing and developed nations. In most cases, there are people who are not concern about the social problems but other struggle to overcome the problems. There are segments in society that are hit hard by the social problems, while others do not care about the social problems. The society reacts in a different way to social problems due to its impacts. Sociologists in the world believe that there are social problems are inevitable in society, but they have always disagreed on the solutions, as well as real causes of social problems. The media today is full of social problems and the undesirable behaviors. The social problems are found at the national, international, local, as well as the state. The social problems in society are very many but the most important ones include divorce, prostitution, ageing population, crime, global warming, overpopulation, pollution, obesity, gun control, abortion, domestic violence, as well as drug abuse.
The society’s social problems affect the sphere of life in various ways. The complexity of social problems is inevitable due to variation of human nature and behaviors. Social problems in society are attributed to various issues that range from child development, economic conflicts, social problems, as well as political instability. In every society, the health of people both physically, socially, and psychological are very crucial and calls for crucial approach. The perceptions of social problems today differ, and this gives the reason why many societies view social problems in a different manner (Mooney, Knox & Schacht, 2013). One of the main social problems in society is crime; in fact there are many reports on issues of media in the neighborhoods. Crime in this perspective entails both professional and unprofessional criminal activities. Technological advancements continue to make this social problem complex and beyond the societal scope (Macionis, 2005). The government and criminal justice system in society has failed to keep the increase of crime in a manageable situation. In most states in the United States, hate crime is at an increase, and continue to target the marginalized and the less fortunate in society.
Divorce is one of the social problems that affect the society in general. In fact, divorce affects the basic social unit in various ways. The children and the parents are mostly affected in case of a divorce. In the modern society, divorce is one of the most social problems. Divorce is associated with violence, misunderstanding, confrontations, scandals, and humiliations (Clarke-Stewart & Brentano, 2008). Divorce affects children adversely since it causes depression, anger, suicidal thoughts, panic attacks, loneliness, nervousness, stress, and exposes them to poverty. In general perspective, divorce disrupts the entire family cycle. Studies show that children who are from a divorced family are more vulnerable to other social problems.
The issue of obesity and other health related issues are part of societal social problems. It is worth noting that obesity and other terminal diseases have become prevalent in society and are steadily in the rise. Studies show that issue of obesity has always been on the rise, especially among the youth and adults (Macionis, 2005). The trend of this social problem is also increasing among the children aged 6-18 years. Some of the disease that makes part of society’s social problem includes heart diseases, HIV/AIDS and diabetes. These problems must be addressed in order to make the society a better place to live.
The use of drugs and alcohol has also proved to be one of the main social problems in society. Drugs and alcohol abuse is one of the causes of social problems, and also qualifies to be a social problem. Abuse of alcohol and drugs is a social problem since it causes undesirable behaviors in society (Mazur, 2006). The world has recorded many cases of drug and alcohol abuse that are directly related with other social problems. For example, there are many people who use drugs in order to execute crime and view it a common phenomena. Drunk drivers are also in the rise causing a lot of accidents. In critical analysis use and abuse of alcohol and drugs is one of the main social problems in society today.
Abortion is also a social problem in society since it causes division between the pro-life and pro-choice. In fact, this social problem has been very controversial and debate in many nations. The pro-choice assert that women have the right to make decisions and should not be limited to act by the government (Dolch, Deutschmann & Powell, 2007). On the other hand, pro-life believe that conception markets the beginning of a new life and no one has the right to terminate the life of an innocent person. Family is a basic unit of every society, but in 21st century families have suffered due to divorce cases. The cases on divorce are on the rise due to changing norms in society which has made it one of the main social problems. The fact that families have problems makes the society vulnerable to other social problems (Mazur, 2006). Social problems in every society are not welcomed since it causes maladjustment and disharmony. The cause of one social problem in society is not the cause of another problem. Hence, it has become difficult for sociologists to ascertain the exact causes of society’s social problems. The weak institutions and individual behaviors are the main causes of social problems in society.
The society has to repair most of the social problems in society. This is the only way to make the society a good place to live in. It is worth noting that every society has solution and a way to repair on these social problems. In fact, societies that assume the impacts of these social problems are in danger of failing in various ways. One of the ways to repair social problems in society is through leadership (Mooney, Knox & Schacht, 2013). Good leadership in society has the potential to eliminate or reduce social problems. Leaders are the pillars of every society, and everyone look on them in various aspects of life. It is through good leadership that a society becomes so informed on the social problems. The government should also invest more on informing people on various issues. One of the most things that people should be informed is the causes and impacts of these social problems.
Also as society it is not too late to educate people on health living. This is achieved by ensuring that people are educated on how to consume good and health diet, as well as exercising their bodies. It is worth noting that this move will eliminate the issue of heart problems, obesity and other diet related terminal diseases. The resources should also be distributed equally so that poverty can be eliminated and the living standards are improved. The material elements and intellectual elements of society must be focused on. Education can repair many of the social problems in society since it opens social, psychological and economic doors, which leads to prosperity.
