Corporate Social Responsibility Policy:
Introduction:
Steward Construction Limited Civil Engineering commits to balancing the organization’s economic sustainability along with its environmental and social responsibilities. Our regard for people comprises of fair treatment to our employees, healthy community’ relations and interactions, and sound management of the associations with our supply chain.
Business Model:
Our business management systems oversee the daily activities and constantly furnish the management with assessment reports. These reports monitor and evaluate the outcomes of the business practices hence prompting the necessary course of action. The present integrated management system is certified to ISO 9001, and endorsed by the Global Construction and Corrosion Authority.
This policy falls under the responsibility of the Managing Director, Health and Safety Manager, and the Projects’ Manager. It is important that the policy must be renewed on an annual basis. The business priorities and objectives will be stipulated at the appropriate levels for the elements that lie within the various elements of this policy.
People:
Health and safety:
Enhancing health and safety levels has been the core element to the operation of the organization. The Health and Safety Manager ensures that all aspects of safety and health are fulfilled. The prevalent policy arrangements are supported and certified by the Occupational Health and Safety Standard, OHSAS 18001. The protocol serves to protect and safeguard all employees and other individuals that may be affected by our construction related activities.
In addition, training and capacity development on aspects of health and safety is provided on annual basis. The syllabus is consistent with the approved construction safety precautions, particularly by the Construction Industry Training Authority, and other nationally recognized training faculties to which the firm has subscribed to.
Training and development:
The organization has a Human Resources Manager whose responsibility is to advise the Managing Director, and the firm on matters of human resources needs and shortcoming, training requirements, and performance measures in line with the demands of the construction industry.
Steward Construction Limited has subscribed to the People National Standard, a platform that implements staff needs and training as recommended by the Human Resources Manager. The improvements are effected in accordance with the approved construction standards and guidelines.
Communities:
Steward Construction Limited treasures the role of the local communities as an integral part to the success of business. Our head office, through the Project Manager, actively seeks to offer employment positions to the local sub-contractors and suppliers. Also, the firm participates in local business and professional platforms. By supporting charity projects, the organization has formed solid educational and self-help initiatives, which uplift the communities to improved livelihoods.
Environment:
The firm has a Health and Safety Manager who emphasizes all safety measures and provides assistance, advice to the administration and to the workforce on sustaining acceptable levels of environmental integrity. Data relating to environmental conservation priorities and objectives is provided annually, which comprises of statistical evidence on the extents of surface damage and pollution as well other important ecological health indicators.
Supply chain:
The firm relies on non-adversarial approach towards corroborative working relationships that deliver value for our clients and for business survival. The Projects’ Manager ensures full cooperation and compliance to the set trading guidelines, with our suppliers and sub-contractors. The firm identifies competent and like-minded organizations able to meet our expectations, especially in environmental, health and safety elements.
Merits of the policy:
The policy has enhanced the continuity of the business in all aspects ranging from people to the environment. The firm has experienced smooth transition in business phases, over the years, and from different chain suppliers and sub-contractors.
For the survival of the construction industry, it is fundamental to protect and nurture the natural environment. The aspect of environment sustainability implies that not just managing the environmental impacts from the construction projects, but also implementing measures that espouse ethical business practice. Such interventions include effective waste management, limiting the levels of pollution, damage and harm to the natural environment.
