The major functionality of social responsibility is the process of providing human behavior in accordance with socially significant values, principles and norms answered the interests and purposes of self-development and society. The major social responsibility issue, as for me, concerns economic, social and ecological dimensions. The economic aspects should demonstrate an optimal using of scarce resources with modern technology to maintain the flow of total revenue that can ensure the preservation of accumulated capital. Social component focuses on the human development and maintaining stability of social systems. Ecological problems that social responsibility should solve concern integrity of biological and physical natural systems and avoiding pollution of the environment.
At the level of companies’ issues, we can define social responsibility as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It contributes to a new vision of business responsibility to a wide spectrum of shareholders. CSR demands providing of the environmental protection, developing of employees and social groups. The major activities within CSR should maintain concurrent execution of implementation of fair business relationship on the competitive market. According to the Forbes, the companies accomplished the most significant CSR rules are Microsoft, Google, The Walt Disney Company, LEGO, Apple, Volkswagen, and Intel (Dill, 2013). As the example of The Walt Disney Company shows, the largest media conglomerate in the world resolves the problem of environmental and philanthropy issues. Its environmental stewardship goals are reduction of net greenhouse gas emissions, energy recovery and maintaining the portable water consumption. Within the philanthropy plans, Disney’s charitable given riches $370 million in 2013 (The Walt Disney, 2014). In 2012, Walt Disney gave $2 million for material assistance of hurricane Sandy victims and granted $1 million to a pilot program of UNICEF. The same year, Disney became the first media company that set a new standard for food and beverage advertising to children in the United States (The Walt Disney, 2014). According to their performance summary, the company committed to creating a healthy generation. Leaders inspire children and their parents to make health-related habits changes. Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund aimed at protecting wildlife and wild places; they have planted over 3 million of trees in Brazil’s threatened Atlantic forest and protected 40 000 coral reef in the Bahamas (The Walt Disney, 2013). The main idea of Disney’s responsible content is creating appropriate environment for children and teach them to make positive contribution to their society. I consider The Walt Disney Company is an excellent example of providing benefits to modern generation.
Starbucks
The example of Starbucks’s corporate social responsibility concerns the environmental issue. The company is leader in Energy and Environmental Design. The managers accomplished their goals within using environmentally sound technologies. An excellent example of reduction of an extra using of scarce resources is usage of old structures and transformation them in the new locations. As for me, companies from the same market should use the Starbuck’s idea of building ecologically clean stores. It would be better if discovering of Starbuck’s CSR policy concerned another part of social reasonability as economic or social concepts.
