How a society is possible if diversity is one of its values
Diversity is indispensable in life. Be it in terms of the finger prints or psychology, every man has a unique persona though he seems to be akin to every other member of his family, religious group or race. Even twins have their individualities. So, should the bond between the two be impeded by their exclusivities? The interaction and unison between the two should be driven with a positive attitude of brotherhood and tolerance. The same concept can be applied on a broader spectrum and used to comprehend how a society is possible if diversity is one of its values.
A society with diversity is not merely a theoretical concept. It does exist in numerous forms in our lives and with varied degree of diversity. A school, for example, lets children with unique mentality and point of view interact and acquire knowledge together. Hailing from assorted cultures, races and with different financial status, these children make friends and form groups to augment learning and personal development. This quality lasts till end enabling the child to grow into an amicable and tolerant adult who fits in diverse professional and social settings.
Another instance which glorifies social unity in diversity is India. This vibrant country is a kaleidoscope of numerous religions, languages, cuisines, ethnic groups, art forms, knowledge and traditions (Wikipedia, 2012). Every region has its own spectacular culture yet the nation is thriving as one society. Those who want to create nuisance always keep raising their heads to hamper peace and prompt negative conflicts. But then, resolving problems together comes into practice which is an essential part of society.
However, the darker side of diversity in a society cannot be overlooked (Wikipedia, 2012). The violent or non-violent yet gruesome discord between conservatism and liberalism, Republican and Democrats, Hindu and Muslim, Catholic and Protestant, labourers and managers, rich and poor, Peace and Terrorism do affect the social life drastically. When accompanied with bloodshed, it shatters the foundation of society which is built with social interaction and support. When analysed closely, the heinously negative conflicts are instigated by those who cannot comprehend mutual understanding, open-mindedness and tolerance. They blame it on diversity but would fail to ensure peace even if the society gets uniform in every respect. However, can a society be completely devoid of diversity? A society has to have changes in it with time and to sustain, it adapts (Last name of the author of book in pdf file, year of publication).
The conclusion is that such a society with diversity is possible. It depends upon how positively the miscellany is entertained by the people. A family, neighbourhood, nation and even world can be in a state of coordination, positive conflict and hence, growth if the people learn to accept change and diversity to be inevitable.
