Sociological Biography: Exemplar Biography To Follow

Each of us has a set of events or traits which make up the unique person that they are. The various sociological factors that may not be special on their own come together to create a society who is a different as they are the same. My story is not that different from millions of others, but it is what has formed my life and who I am. I grew up in a middle class home in Kuwait City. I am the youngest of three children, and the only boy. My father owns his own business, while my mother is a high school English teacher. We are Muslim.
Because my mother teaches English we were given extra instruction at home, giving us a benefit over peers who struggle communicating in English. Not only that, my mother was very attentive to our education. Learning was a normal part of our life-style.
Living in Kuwait City means I grew up in a low-crime area with a lot of activities to stay busy at. There were a lot of restaurants to choose from, as well as museums and access to the beach. There was never a dull moment as a child. Although there are a lot of foreigners who work in various companies in Kuwait, the schools I went to were Arabic only. There is a prejudice in my parents’ generation towards foreigners, and they do not believe their children should be educated with foreign children. Nonetheless, my generation does not feel so strongly. This is just one of the generational differences that exists.
Kuwait is predominantly Muslim, so my religion is not unique as far as the area I live. Nonetheless, it does affect how I live my life. From traditions to daily activities, there is little doubt that being Muslim affects me in everything I do. My ethics and values are based upon the teachings given to me. This affects my interactions with families and friends, as well as the decisions I make about my future.
Being the youngest and the boy in my family has allowed me certain treatment and privileges. There are expectations my father has placed upon me because of my gender. Despite this, I am still the baby brother and my sisters let me know it. While they are playful with me like siblings should be, I am still held in high regard by them because of my familial standing. So despite being the youngest, it is not the same as if I were the youngest and a girl.
There is little doubt that various factors have shaped me. Parts of who I am have given me special privileges, while other parts have helped to ensure an excellent education. Living in a city has affected me because I have been exposed to great diversity, just like having a teacher for a mother has given me a different outlook on education. Also the example set by my father as he tenaciously pursued his own company has instilled a strong work ethic in me. Then of course there is my religion, which has affected much of who I am and the choices I make. It is these sociological factors that have shaped me and molded me.
