What can be changed in society to lessen social alienation?
Alienation has been best described in simple term as ‘separation’. From the research carried out, alienation is among the top for factors that causes misery in the society. This term takes various forms, for instance being alone, separation from self as an active being, and also separation from meaningful work. Some of the major causes of alienation include loss of role within the society, deteriorated health conditions, death of parent(s)/spouse, poverty and also aging, one’s race and /or gender.
There are many negative effects associated with alienation. To the society, alienation may result to a sharp rift between the existing tribes. This might therefore lead to endless feuds and fights amongst families. To lessen social alienation, it is essential to undertake a comprehensive social integration process. Social integration is actually the opposite of social alienation. By social integration we mean the advancement of the minority individuals into the majority group of the society so that they can work together as one, towards future prosperity. It is through integration that the minority groups learn new ideas from the rest of the society, get opportunity to work with them and most importantly live with them. Through this process, people will be less lonely and less idle, since they already got something to engage their minds and efforts.
People should also be encouraged to embrace others and respect their work, despite their race, gender or culture. It is through love that peace is achieved. Furthermore, the society should try their level best to improve on its social facilities such as schools, hospitals and religion centers. The end result of improving the social facilities is a remarkable reduction in alienation.
In essence, a society should change their perceptions towards certain groups of people, improve its social facilities and most importantly take an active role in social integration, as a way of lessening alienation.
