Introduction
Sociology refers to a science that seeks to study the behavior of human beings and gives credible information on the different behavior patterns as expressed by humans. The behavior of human beings can be investigated right form its origin to development and finally expressed as a tendency by a human. A social behavior in human beings can be expressed as a character of a person when he or she interacts with another person. This behavior can either be acceptable or thus form a virtue or un-acceptable and thus become a vice (Lindsey, Beach, Booth & Ravelli, 2009). The social structure in the current situation has really changed and this affected how people act or behave while in the company of others. Sociology seeks to understand and provide critical information to the society and the way the society out to carry themself.
Thus sociology is a social science that seeks critical analysis of various human behaviors and develops a knowledge base that people from all walks of life can use in their study. The welfare of the society is to grow and express the best of behavior in all manners as the society deems fit (Handel, 2003). Different behaviors are accepted in a given society depending on the social setting and structure that exists in such a society and thus they differ from region to region. Many sociologists nowadays focus on understanding the process of social structure and how it affects the behavior of various people in the named area. The functions of different people in any social setting which may include a school, organization or even business is set out by the rule laid down by the various stakeholders involved. A person behavioral pattern is dependent on many factors that he or she associates with (Andersen & Taylor, 2006).
Standard Occupational Classification (SOC)
I work in a business environment where various norms are required for a given employee whether in the management or other levels of operations. A behavior may arise out of an attitude towards a certain aspect in the environment and thus a norm is created which will later influence the action of an individual. A positive attitude will most likely result in interest in a given action which will bore a behavior. My interest in business has over time influenced my decisions when it comes to the ethics and the norm at our office. Individual social interactions are responsible for his or her behavior as they set out the culture of behavior that is acceptable in a given social group.
An organization for example where I work operates on team work and the team members must respect the work ethics that are present in the given team work and thus they set a standard behavior for all members. Business ethics dictate that an individual must carry him/herself according to the work behavior as stipulated in the operations of the organizations. Having and setting business in our business organization has helped in creating a conducive environment for all employees. Team work is enhanced through interaction which instead improves the operations of the organizations. Certain norms that are common to a business organization like mode of dressing, racial factors and gender have been emphasized by the American Sociology Association (Newman, 2008).
Some habits are developed over time and I have managed to excel in my field through gaining relevant information of my work ethics. I have always been keen to learn new things that are helpful in improving my operations as business administrative officer in our organization. Through this I have managed to gather experience on my work as I continue interacting with other employees at the various levels of management and operations. My work ethics have evolved over time due to the environment I operate in and the people I have interacted with in the past and the new ones I meet up daily. My interest in business administration were influenced by my parents as I was growing up where I was taught how to manage time and money which are vital resources in the society. I developed interest in business at a younger age and I still continue learning new things from colleagues and other work mates.
My teachers at elementary did a major part in shaping my career to lean on my interest in business; they offered advice as I continued with my studies and good morals were enforced which bring out the high discipline in my character. My skills and experience that span for over ten years in business organizations have been instrumental in problem solving technique as I encounter different scenarios each day that require a clear decision making process. During my years in college I was taken through a course that involve decision making and how organizations are shaped by the decision made by everyday managers. Through this process I have managed to cut a niche in our department that has been critical in improving the operations at the office.
Sociology has tried to answer some questions that have influenced the behavior of human beings in any given social setting. Different work ethics exist in different organizations and thus the behavior of employees is governed by the mechanism put in place by the management of the organization. The behavior of an individual is influenced by several factors which include attitudes, culture, values, emotions and ethics among any others. Genetics is also vital in influencing a person’s behavior and that’s why sociologists have tried to study some of these influences to come up with a more comprehensive report (Finsterbusch, 2008). What controls a person to behave in a certain way may be due to coercion or persuasion and thus we need to get a better mechanism that can differentiate what an individual character that shapes his or her character.
In an organization there are several given acceptable limits of behavior that can be tolerated but to a certain level. Failure to honor the acceptable limit leads to punishment. Thus in sociology it defines behavior as the most basic human action that cannot be changed in an individual. The society nowadays has acceptable norms that all individual ought to follow and obey. This can be viewed as a check against any bad behavior that an individual can express in a given social setting which would taint the good morals of the society (McIntyre, 2005).
Throughout my career as a business administrator I have encountered challenges that require the intervention of other colleagues at work. Consultation has always been helpful when it comes to decision making as it allows a person to get a different opinion from a professional in that sector or through discussion. Team building is enhanced through recognition of the other person’s role in the work of the organization and this has helped many business organizations to forge ahead. Information in a given business is important in decision making as it forms the basis for critical thinking among individuals in an organization (Giddens & Sutton, 2010). When I face a challenge in my operations I always like to consult and interact with other people to get a different opinion about the challenge and how to solve it.
Conclusion
The behavior of an individual is very crucial in determining the conduct and operation at any given environment. The actions of a person are guided by several factors that may have been shaped by his/her environment. Schools and the society form a major part of factors that influence an individual and mold his/her behavior to be incongruent with the required standards. Sociology as a science tries to incorporate the behavior of human with the environment or society they grow up in. the behavior of a person can be attributed to the social integration the person has with other people and how his/her decision making process and problem solving is done. Social studies in schools have formed a major area of study among teachers and students as they try to understand more about the society and the human aspect in the society. Critical thinking and problem solving scenarios are emphasized in schools as they see the future for the youths in their quest to become good citizens. My interest in business has been a child hood dram that I chose to achieve and I enjoy doing what I do in making the organization meet its goals and creating a working environment for other workers more conducive. My parents and my teachers have been instrumental in my quest to continue learning more about business and help in solving some environmental problems in our society.
