Solution to racism and discrimination in the workplace
Racism and discrimination are two major problems in the workplace. Racism and discrimination are not only inappropriate and unfair attitude to people, but it is also a key factor, which “limits productivity, performance and profitability” of the company (Mayhew). In addition, specialists suggest that racism and discrimination are the main reasons for bad reputation of any company. As it can be seen, there is an obvious need to change existing situation and implement such programs, which will help to decrease these phenomena in the workplace.
In my opinion, the most serious changes should concern employers, because their behavior should serve as an example for the company employees. It is crucial for the head of the company to show his future and current employees that racism and discrimination are unacceptable in their office. Showing disapproval of such behavior is one of the most successful ways to eliminate undesirable behavior. To support his position, policies against racism and discrimination should be implemented. Employees should know that display of racism and discrimination will be punished and have negative consequences.
As far as discrimination and racism are rather serious problems, it is not enough to use words in order to proclaim equity. Employers should hire people of different nations, organize special meetings, which will focus on anti-racism policies, equity, show people how to work in multinational environment. Such events will also help employees to know each other better, improve interpersonal relations and make working atmosphere better.
Finally, there is a necessity in controlling display of racism and discrimination in the workplace. A good idea is to create a system, which will allow employees to report anonymously about cases of discrimination in the office.
