Introduction
There are various factors that enhances a firm`s profitability and productivity at large. These factors include efficient human capital, innovation, and consumers` satisfaction. However, currently, most researchers consider human capital as one of the most significant factor that determines profitability and productivity. As such, many organizations invest in strategic human resource activities. Strategic human resource includes intensive job analysis, selection system, enhanced coaching, training and development, and creation of quality working environment. As such, firms seek services of different stakeholders to not only ensure selection of qualified employees, but also ensure they are retained. Industrial/Organizational psychologists are usually consulted so as assist in the development of a good selection system. It is on this background that this paper seeks to discuss how an industrial psychologist can proceed in case he or she is hired to develop a selection system that involves a clinical construct assessment which is not part of his or her training.
Firstly, as an industrial psychologist, if I am hired to design a selection system which involves assessments which I am not conversant with, I would opt to decline the assignment. This is because I feel it is ethical to only accept duties which are within ones area of training. As such, I would be honest enough and decline the assignment so as to maintain a good working condition with my clients in the future. Nevertheless, I can also seek the assistance of other industrial psychologists that have relevant training in clinical construct. This will enable me to develop other assessments apart from clinical construct. However, I would seek the consent of my clients before sub-contracting part of my assignment to another industrial psychologist.
Conclusion
An industrial psychologist can decline an assignment if he or she lacks relevant knowledge in that particular field. Nonetheless, he or she can seek assistance from another industrial psychologist that is trained on that field.
